If you have children then this is the place for you, the water park and children entertainment area's are amazing.
Driving into the hotel, I had to double check that we were in the right place, the sign and the delapadated bridge out the front need fixing.
The plunge pool with diving rocks is a first that i've seen and will put a smile on any childs face( and some adults :P)
location is good, within walking distance of local Karon mini market and a short 300-400 baht ride to patong.
Service, like most places in Thailand is amazing.
The first room we stayed in was in block 6( in front of the pools) I was hesitant at first, thinking that the noise would be too much however the waterfall noise drowns this out( we were on 4th floor)
One thing we did notice is that the rooms with private pools looked fairly averge( mostly due to bieng on the ground level)
We had an issue with the plumbing( shower drain not working) so they moved us into block 5(left of block 6) with an upgrade to a corner room.
Wow these rooms are amazing, the SPA bath is double the size with a sun lounge on the balcony.
We also noticed that we got more ammenities in the bathroom(razor/toothbrush/mouthwash/sunscreen and robe) as well as having a dvd player and 2 universal plugs( the biggest plus in my mind as i'm a tech Junkie and work in IT)
We did have another issue were when we emptied the spa bath the bathroom flooded, but a couple minutes of mopping sorted this.
All in all, this is a nice Hotel, but requiring a bit of maintanance.
If you don't like kids screams then book another place as you're gonna hear them.
Breakfast was a bit lacking in comparison to the Westin, Honey on the comb( by which i sometimes judge breaksfasts :P) was Old and reused.
It rained almost solidly while we were here and we still had a good time( water park to chill in)

Room Tip: Get a level 4 room with SPA bath, most of these rooms have ocean views! If you can get a corner room then you'll be super happy :)

We were situated in block 2 and enjoyed beautiful sunset views from our balcony. We liked the room design and felt it was exactly as shown in the photographs. The Luna bar had a candlelit outdoor rooftop terrace with double beds to lounge on. There was a lovely romantic atmosphere up there in the evening. I can recommend the Spa, my husband had the Thai four hand massage and I chose the Kalyani package, these were a particular highlight. I would also like to personally thank the Manager Mr Denis Thouvard for his kind attention during our stay.

Usually we rent a nice villa when we go on vacation, but this was my first time in Asia & we wanted to have some onsite advice about the local area.
We were booked into a Luxury Pool Room, but opted to upgrade (for additional fees) upon checkin to a 1 BR Villa.
The villa was absolutly beautiful with a large pool, huge livingroom, green marbled bedroom with 20 foot, ornate, ceilings (including soaking tub, walk in closet, & 2 vanity areas), marvelous gardens, & separate room for empty luggage.
We had access to "club" that everyone raves about. It was nice & we used it only for breakfast, but really don't feel the need to be "rarified" while on vacation & would have been completely satisfied with having breakfast in the main area if this were something we were required to pay additional for.
The restaurants were so so.
We spent most of our meal time out & about; at the simple & delicious restaurants on the beach just in front of the resort, at Mom Tris (!), on Kata Hill (foodcarts a must), etc.
Room Service good.
The drawbacks to the villa are few. First, the 1 br. villas have only peek a boo views, as the 2-3 br. villas are in the way.
There is no possible "adult play time" in your pool as you are rather open to the public.
Otherwise, it is a very short walk to the beach, & lots of tropical bird song in the air.
This resort competently caters to families, but the kid's attractions are brilliantly laid out, so there is never a feeling of being overrun.
I had a fabulous private yoga/pilates lesson in the gym, as no one else signed up.
The resort was very helpful with arranging transportation & our day trip to Phi Phi Islands.
Karon beach was rough & dirty for our first 3 days, but beautiful, clean, & serene on our last day.

Room Tip: As most people are not going to opt for a villa, from what I could observe of the other rooms is that if you want a pool suite, opt for a luxury one, the regular ones seemed stacked together with no space or privacy. Otherwise choose one of the luxury spa balcony suites as there are plenty of other submersive watersports options immediatly available.

We have just returned home from 9 nights at Centara Grand Phuket. I spent weeks researching Phuket Resorts and thought i picked the best resort and was so excited. But the reality didnt live up to the expectation.

CHECK IN - we booked 3 rooms and emailed the resort and travel agent spoke with the thailand rep who apparently spoke with resort and we were told we could have 3 rooms all with a joining balcony. when we checked in we were put in 3 rooms non of which even interconected at all. the managed said this type of room wasnt even available and then took over an hour to provide 2 rooms which interconnected and 1 room that was next door (why atleast wasnt this given to us in the first place?) We also requested building 8 or 9 and when i asked the manager he said strait up they dont take room requests EVER.

LOCATION WITH KIDS - we travelled with 4 adults and 2 children aged 3 and 5. I found this resort too isolated it was too hot and too far for the kid to walk along the beach to go to any shops so everytime we wanted to leave the hotel is a minimum 200 baht each way ($6 australian). They have 2 mini buses parked in the carpark all day, for a 5 star resort i think they should run free shuttles into karon several times per day.

KIDS CLUB - after the 1st session there was no way i was leaving my children there again. when i dropped them off they didnt even ask there names or want to try and introduce themselves to the children i was basically leaving them in a room with 2 people maybe watching them, and when i went to pick them up i dont think they even noticed they left.

POOL - looked lovely from a distance but when you were in all around the edges you could see mould and algea. During our stay all 6 of us on varying days got sick with a severe gastro bug (not food poisioning as we never ate the same and if it was it was from the hotel anyway) i beleive that we picked up a bug from the pool, as if mould and algea can grow in a pool so can can other water based bacteria.

STAFF - struggled to speak english and understand basic things almost everynight they would forget some part of the order and then we would wait another half hour for the rest of either food or drinks to arrive.

ROOMS - were nice but housekeeping is not consistent and not of a 5 star hotel standard. somedays they would replace the dirty glasses in bathroom new ones and some days all the dirty glasses would still be left in the room and our sheets were not changed onces during our stay.

On a whole this hotel looks good but is too far away from anything so you feel very isolated, if this is what you want that you will like it and i think that they need to have better general maintenance.

When i was there i went and picked my hotel for our next visit to phuket and i will definatley be staying at the Movenpick it was beautiful.

Room Tip: there is no point requesting it as they tell you strait up on check in that they dont take room requests.
