An excellent hotel with very friendly staff, very close to the beach, and it also has four fantastic pools (something for eveyone) I cannot understand people that complained about this hotel it has everything you need, the rooms are very modern and comfortable and for breakfast they cater for every taste imagineable, also it is not as remote as some reviews have suggested you can walk to Karon Circle in about ten minutes, or if you fancy a lazy lunch (and you dont want to walk to far) then the little eating places to the right of the hotel front seve fantastic cheap food. All in all this was a fabulous holiday and we would gladly return to this hotel.

John + Carol both aged 63

Room Tip: block 9 is nearest the beach blocks 8 and 7 nearest the pools

Brilliant service...try for Blocks 9, 8 or 7 to be near main pools.
also try the little beach food place (tucked up next to the mountain, its not a restaurant, very very basic...but great food).
All the pools are excellent...if you have kids its the only place to stay...if you don't, then just miss the schools holidays and you wont regret it.

Room Tip: try for rooms in Blocks 9, 8, 7..close to pools etc

This resort is everything that it says it is! We were greeted very warmly upon arrival and taken to our Room. It was a beautiful room with a huge balcony overlooking the adults pool and the ocean - a wonderful view to wake up to each morning! The room was very clean with plenty of space. My friend that I was travelling with has a gluten free diet and I am vegetarian and the staff in the hotel restaurant went above and beyond to ensure that our meals were suitable. The Hotel Chef came and spoke to us himself on more than one occasion. The food was always fresh and VERY tasty! We enjoyed many spa treatments at their onsite spa - the staff were very professional and were never dissapointed! Room service each day was very thorough and they cleaned our room well. Only on 2 occasions did we need to ring for a clean towel or for a new laundry bag. We had the Club Benefits which was worth it as we would eat a big breaky in the morning and then have club benefits afternoon tea for lunch - it was also nice to go up to the club benefits room just to relax in the afternoon. The unlimited wifi was great to stay in contact with our families. The resort has its own private beach front which made our stay even more relaxing, it was alot more relaxing than the beach in Patong where you were always hassled by locals to buy things and there were MANY more tourists there. Loved the WHOLe holiday! would highly recommend and will definetely be back!

Pros:
+ Beach was excellent
+ Pools are great
+ Villas are very nice
+ New facilities; everything in excellent condition
+ Service by the Thai staff was very good

This was our third family trip to Phuket, so we focused on finding a really nice beach and still have an excellent resort. The resort fronts a nice long and wide stretch of beach. The beach and the water were nice -- with lots of people spending time in the water and playing on the beach.

The resort was very nice. This trip was with our extended family, so we opted for the 2 bedroom villa with club access and breakfast. The villa was incredible -- so much space, huge balcony with pool, large living room, plus a small pantry with full size refrigerator. Nice ocean view. Having access to the Club lounge is good value if you can make it for happy hours.

The hotel pools, lazy river, and water slides (including a small slide at the kiddy pool) were great. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet at The Cove and one dinner at Mare (Italian restaurant.) The breakfast was good and Mare was very good. Breakfast was well organized with plenty of space. At peak hours, the staff seating guests were very disorganized. We found the poolside service to be ok, but no friendly Thai smiles.

The kids club looked good, but our children were not interested on this trip.
The spa was very good -- facilities and services. Resort pricing, of course, but nice calm environment.

Cons:
- The non-Thai staff that we encountered were not so friendly.
- This is not necessarily the fault of the resort, but some of the guests were extremely rude and loud, fussing at the staff in the restaurant.
- I am no prude, but the hotel policy is no topless sunbathing and it should be enforced. It's kinda of hard to explain to a young child why someone's rather large grandmother is walking around the pool without her swimsuit top on.
- The very common pad thai was ok; I expect really good Thai food at a resort in Thailand.

Overall: excellent
Food: very good
Service: very good
Property: excellent
Beach: excellent

We stayed at the Centara Grand for 2 weeks in January and were very impressed . We enjoyed our Pool Villa which had a plunge pool and a terrace with wonderful views to the ocean .The room was well-maintained and serviced twice a day .
While there we enjoyed both restaurants , took a Thai Cooking Class and used the hotel 's cars 3 times which was an excellent service that cost very liitle more than taxis . We had a car take us to the After Beach Bar high above Kata Beach on the cliff-top and they came to pick us up later at a pre-arranged time . The restaurant / bar was wonderful for the sunset so , if you go , arrive in time for a drink while watching the sunset and then eat while watching all the lights on the fishing boats . Another trip was Phuket Town and the hotel car took us there where we walked in the old town , visited a temple and ate at the amazing Natural Restaurant before getting a taxi to the Night Market and then another taxi back to the hotel . There are taxis right outside the Night Market and the price is settled before the journey .
The resort is on a lovely beach and the grounds are really beautiful .
Our room type included entry to the Club Lounge which we really enjoyed and , while all the staff in the resort were absolutely lovely , it was the staff in the Club that really impressed . To Lukekate and her wonderful team nothing was too much trouble and their welcoming smiles and greetings and their desire to make everyone's holiday special was without peer . We looked forward to seeing them each day . We have stayed in so many hotels in Asia and the staff here were some of the most impressive that we have come across .
The Executive Chef Sandro is Spanish and , while paella is not on a restaurant menu , he will cook it by special request . That's amazing service and it was delicious . We would love to see it on the menu next time we visit !
We had the strong impression that there is very good management at this resort and that the staff are very happy which makes a big difference .
There are so many good things to be said about Centara Grand but the greatest asset of all is the wonderful staff . Thank you one and all .

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea . We found the Pool Room with Club access to be good value . There are stunning villas on the northern end which were either 1 or 2 bedroom and had large pools . They looked stunning .
