look guys basically we had a fantastic time rather go through everything which everyone is already said i have a few points
1 location none better in phuket right on the beach
2 stop whinging about the cheaper rooms if you want to stay across the road in the bhuri wing you may as well stay in patong some where. get a junior suite or ocean junior like we did
3 the food and drink is not expensive in the resort of course its cheaper out on the streets but sometime you just don't feel like leaving. the room service menu is somewhat limited but i thought reasonably priced as were all the restaurants where just remember you are in a resort not a back packers and 70bht for a beer served to me by a waiter in my deck chair by the pool is more than reasonable we stayed at siam@siam in bangkok and they charged me 270bht
4 breakfast is very good thai or bacon eggs whatever you want
5 yes the resort is away from everything which i prefer to think thats a positive rather than being 4 streets back from the beach rather than paying 150bht to sit on a deck chair when you finally get to the beach and get asked to buy everything by the hawkers at least you can laze on the deck chair by the pool in peace with an ocean view and either take the one minute stroll to the ocean or swim in the pool
6 yes the internet is a major problem its slow and very expensive but the more negative reviews and I'm sure they will fix this problem
all in all we loved our time and can't wait to return

Room Tip: junior ocean suite

We decided to take advantage of a long weekend and visit this resort with two other families. I had found it by scouring resorts on Trip Advisor.

Overall we had a great time there but it does need some improvements....

1. Our checkin was laborious and we felt unattended too. The guy on reception was very slow at processing our two families and since we had been up since early that morning, all we wanted to do was get to our rooms.
2. The staff overall were not that friendly. We have been at other resorts of this rating in thailand and always found all staff in all areas smiling and friendly. Not so here. Reception staff need retraining as do the bar staff at the thani wing pool. Not friendly and accomodating at all. The friendliest staff were the grounds people and the housekeeping staff.
3. The breakfast spread was ok at best. Again, other resorts at this level offer much better variety and quality of food.

The room we had was a junior suite and was a great size for us with one child. Only problem was the airconditioning was not efficient and the room was always damp and musty. Even our pillows smelt and felt damp.

This resort is an hours drive away from the airport in a lovely part of Thailand. Kata is just up the road and there are a number of good restaurants to choose from.
We had a lovely 5 days with our friends but would not recommend this resort for a long term stay. I guess we have been spoilt in the past by the same rated resorts with much better overall service and facilities.

Wonderful location, private beach, friendly staff, awesome setting. We will be back.

On arrival we were greeted by happy, friendly bell staff, escorted into the lobby and given a refreshing drink and cool towel. Lobby staff were wonderful and full of knowledge. Taken to our beach front room (Thani Wing) by golf buggy. Room was fantastic, what a view.

Great variety for breakfast, so much to choose from. Everything nice and fresh. Massages on the resort grounds were amazing, ladies were lovely and only 300baht for a massage.

We didn't eat at the resort in the evening. Two great restaurants across from the resort. TA Restaurant and the Orchid both had great food and lovely staff. If you want to go somewhere special try Mom Tri's, it overlooks the Kata Noi Bay and an easy walk from the resort (stairs at the end of the beach). Also Two Chefs in Kata.

Suggestion: In case of a Tsunami alert, Improvement with the evacuation route across from the resort needs to be cleared of vegetation and better understanding of what needs to happen.

While we were at the Katathani we had a tsunami alert, it was rather frightening, staff were helpful in showing you the evacuation routes, but as far as I could tell didn't go along the route with guests. Unfortunately, the path up into the hill behind the resort, was very overgrown and extremely difficult for the young and elderly. A hornets/wasp nest was disturbed and a number of people were stung, including myself (approx 8-9 stings in the face and head), by the time I got to the top I was in extreme pain, no medical or staff were to be found, and we had to wait approx 4 hours until the alert was declared safe, fortunately I was not allergic and grateful to an Australian couple who helped me. Also water needs to be provided, locals happy to sell you water, but if you don't have your wallet you go without.

But overall, my family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Katathani.

Room Tip: Thani Wing, beach front

I was extrememly impressed by the standard of this resort. Service was quick and staff were so genuinely friendly, we felt at home. Food was surprisingly of good quality and taste. The green curry was the best I've ever had. Buffet breakfast had plenty of variety. Gardens were spotlessly manicured. Beds were comfortable with your own choice of mattress and pillow hardness. The resort is located on one of the best beaches in Phuket, Kata Noi, with clear water and that isn't crowded. With six restaurants and four swimming pools, we didn't have to leave. Highly recommended for families and couples.

Room Tip: Ocean view junior suite is on the far north side of the resort, a bit quiter but further away from e...

This is the second time we have stayed at the resort, having previously stayed in May 2008. This resort has easily one of the best locations in Phuket being right on a relatively quiet beach. It is a short step from any room to a pool, and the pool borders right on the beach so best of both worlds. The rooms are pretty decent with a nice amount of space, although we couldn't get one of the ocean front junior suites (just a 'standard' junior suite - see below).
I think the food has dropped in standard from what we experienced last time. The food and drinks are reasonable value, but our dinner at the Fisherman's wharf restaurant was average, and very expensive, so we didn't have dinner at the resort again. This was one of our favourite restaurants from last time, so we were disappointed and instead opted for the small restaurants in the street, or paying $6 for a tuk-tuk into Kata. Mom-Tri's (right next door) also has an excellent restaurant with a great view, but is pretty much Sydney city pricing (i.e. expensive).
The breakfast is good, but lacked some of the options and variety you see at other 4-5 star hotels these days, and after having stayed at the Shangri-La in Chiang Mai just before the Katathani, it was a definite step down.
Compared to last time, I think the service has dropped a little as well. Tipping culture has become much more prevalent/expected and the resort was also extremely busy. The service as the pools at the Northern end of the Thani wing was also markedly better than that at the more southern pool. The southern pool is arguably much better for kids and is a much larger pool, so we preferred to be there, but found the service relatively inattentive.
As noted, the location is hard to beat, and it's pretty easy to get a tuk-tuk or taxi into Kata or beyond from right outside the door step.
Overall we enjoyed staying here again, I just think it is a little disappointing that the quality has slipped from the top notch where it was before.

Room Tip: Definitely aim to pay the little extra for the Ocean front Junior Suites in the Thani wing. They hav...
