The snorkeling is amazing here, we swam with lots of different schools of fish, even a school of box fish, along with adult reef sharks, eels, turtles and my favourite, a large porcupine puffer fish! The reef does seem to have alot of algae on it which can make the water a little green and murky in areas but in turn this attracts alot more fish. In the shallower lagoon area the water is clear and is great for beginners who dont like deep water but still want to see lots of colourful reef fish.

The island is beautiful and if its your first time to the maldives you wont be disappointed.
However we stayed in a classic room and it was very basic and dated, the shower was a bit of a dribbler, something you would find in a 2* hotel in greece! When you're paying 1000's of pounds to come here you expect higher quality.

We went half board and the food is good, with 2 chef stations frying fresh fish and meat every night. The buffet did get a bit repetitive though, i was a bit disappointed at the lack of Asian inspired food, the food was aimed more at the tourists rather than staying native to the Maldives.

My biggest problem with this island is the ridiculous cost for food and drinks. There is a 10% service charge and a 12% tax added to everything you buy. My wife bought a fresh orange juice and a can of coke at the beach bar and it was nearly £15!!!
Most evenings my wife and i would have a gin & tonic after dinner which came to and eye watering £20 for 2 drinks!
Halfway through the week we received a letter under the door asking us to pay the bill as the maximum $500 allowance had been used. All we had bought were soft drinks through the day and lunch (usually a pizza to share) and this had come to $500 in 4 days!!!
On final checkout the island had milked us £750 on lunches, drinks and one snorkel hire for the week. We wanted to do the whale shark trip but it was £150 each and you had to set off at 5am.

We went to Vilamendhoo 2 years ago for a similar price and that island is far more luxurious and we only spent £300 for the week which included a manta ray boat trip! If you are honeymooners then I would definitely recommend going to Vilamendhoo instead.

We have enjoyed Bandos but have left feeling ripped off and wont be going back. For the amount of money they are making on all the guests surely they can update the bathrooms.

Room Tip: Wouldnt advise a classic room (cheapest), you get what you pay for, very tired and dated

We booked a stay at Bandos for the last 3 days of our vacation in the Maldives, due to its proximity to the airport and our ability to spend the last full day at the resort before taking the short transfer to the airport for our late night flight.

The resort contacted me by email a few days prior to our arrival to confirm our arrival time. After some back and forth, I clarified our arrival time (by boat from another island) and was advised to check in at their resort desk at the airport. On time, as expected, we arrived at the desk to be advised they were expecting us and would need to wait 1 hour for our transfer. Over an hour later, we were ushered to a speed boat for a short 10 minute ride to the resort. There were no other guests on our speed boat. I was advised there was no reason for the delay and this must have been my fault. This is a $99 USD per person transfer, so I had higher expectations.

We stayed in a standard room and had a small bowl of fruit and bottle of wine in our room. There was no note, however you are shown the room by a staff member when you are delivered with your items via golf cart. He inquired if we had stayed with the hotel previously and when we advised no, he appeared confused and left. Perhaps we received the fruit bowl and wine as a mistake as this was a surprise to us as well. The room is large, a bit dated, and had an ant colony in the bathroom.

We were on the half board plan and found the food at the buffet to be repetitive. In comparison, the premium 'pay' restaurants offer a greater variety and are quite good. You are provided with 2 bottles of 1L water in your room, which you can fill for free in the clubhouse. During meals, you are charged for a similar bottle of water. This seemed an unnecessary charge in our minds, specifically in the buffet for dinner, as tea, juice and water are free for breakfast.

We snorkeled around the reef and were able to see small black tip reef sharks and schools of fish from the beach during various times of the day. There are many colorful fish, however the reef is very damaged and coral life is very limited.

We did receive a note in the room the day prior to check out to advise when our transfer speedboat would depart, along with a time for our baggage to be picked up by a golf cart prior to check out. There are lockers in the clubhouse where we left our items for the day, as we were able to enjoy the resort until our flight time.

While a nice resort, improvements in service and attention to detail, would really make this a 5 star experience.

I'm writing this review in the middle of our stay and I can say it's terrible. We have the all included meals but they forgot to tell us that they charge for every drink including the still water. The afternoon when we arrived we asked for a club sandwich, the worst sandwich we had ever, bread with tomato and lettuce and nothing else, immediately I call them to complain. They apologise and brought us a more complete club sandwich but not up to standard. This bad felling that we were spending our money and our holidays was confirmed when we arrived to dinner buffet. Not acceptable for a 4 star resort. Food with no quality and could even see it in the guest face expressions. To complete the night nothing, a bar where they have a karaoke that nobody sings and over priced drinks. That's depressing.

So it’s our first day at Bandos and you know what they say - first impressions count!
Firstly a little disappointed that there are no slippers or bath robes in the room.
Secondly our room is quite far from the main restaurant so when we enquired about the jetty transportation we were told it’s mainly used for arrival and departure guest.
There is no shuttle service to male - one of the reasons we chose Bandos is due to its proximity to male assuming there would be a service into the city allowing us to explore.
There are some rotting apples, bananas and lychees complimentary in our room which will be safer not to touch!
We have half board so will be trying dinner in the gallery in a few hours! Will keep you posted!

We understand your frustrations due some arrangements and we would like to apologize sincerely.

Bathrobes are provided upon request and room slippers are available from our souvenir shop. Should you have requested for a room closer to the outlets we would have taken the comment into consideration, since there were no additional requests I hope you understand all our rooms cannot be located close the main outlets.

There are no shuttle services to Male’, but if you are interested we can have it arranged. We have Male’ Tour excursion and the possibility to join one of our arrival/departure boats at your own convenience.

Buggy services are provided to all our in-house guest, but as we have a limited number of buggies which we also use for our arrival and departure it may take a while if you request for buggy service.

We will replace the fruit basket with fresh fruits and have our Duty Manager speak with you today to further assist you with your concerns.
