There are two ways to reach the Castello - one from the cemeterio car park in Stilo (the right one) and another that starts through an archway into woodland near the Cattolica (the wrong one!). The second starts off OK as it zigzags through the woods with some steep if uneven steps but as it reaches open ground the path becomes much rougher and steeper. There are whole sections where the wooden handrail has disappeared or (worse) is so rickety that you're not sure if you can trust it. The path becomes steep and full of loose stones and rocks with some scary looking drops alongside - definitely not for the faint-hearted.
The castle itself is fairly impressive and has been recently restored. The views are almost worth the scary 'walk' up.
We came down by the route that ends/starts in the cemeterio car park and, although longer, it is much safer...
