Since 1991, we have been to Balcova area for the use of thermal water, after learning this area's historical past, going back to Agamemnon times (king of Mycenae and commander in chief of the coalition that attacked Troy), whose only daughter being sick was treated and cured by the thermal water here to the happy surprise of her recovery.
Our visits to KAYA IZMIR Thermal had been for the use of thermal water for overall good health. There is a good Spa offering variety of massages.
KAYA Izmir Thermal & Convention Hotel is very nicely located with a backdrop of several mountains, and also beautiful views of the City of Izmir and the Bay.
Kaya's breakfast, lunch and dinners are very sumptuous, large variety of appetizers, main dishes and desserts. It is not an "ALL INCLUSIVE" hotel. You can have breakfast included and lunch and dinner pay as you go. KAYA has a beautiful Lobby and very nice layout for social activities including pianist entertaining every evening before dinner.
KAYA draws its customers from all over the world, in fact the whole world meets in KAYA
through international conferences there. Front Office Chief: Hakan Keskin, all the front desk staff, Guest Relations: Tugce Ezgi Cakir and many others made us feel at home.

History of Thermal water in Balcova:
"Balçova is home to one of the oldest thermal spring hotels in the İzmir region. The Balçova Thermal Hotel is a four-star hotel situated on the slopes of the pine forest peaks which frame the south side of the city.
The Balçova Thermal Hotel opened in 1983 and serves an estimated 3,500 guests at the Physiotherapy Center each year alone. The majority of the foreign guests, meanwhile, are from Scandinavian countries, mainly Norway, as over 1,000 patients from the country receive therapy in accordance with an agreement signed with the Norwegian Health Ministry. The physiotherapy center houses two thermal pools which are used to aid rheumatism and other ailments.
The natural thermal springs located in the gardens of the Balçova Thermal Hotel provide between 400 and 600 cubic square meters of water each day while the temperature of the thermal water varies between 90 and 105 degrees Celsius" (Wikipedia).

Room Tip: City/Sea view, non-smoking room. higher floor etc.

Great foyer and lobby area. Thermal bath was nice, but the rooms were nicer. Excellent meals and selection. Juice could be improved. Room were spacious. Walk to the stores takes you through an area that probably looks worse than it is. Shuttle to the local mall, but does not run frequently.

A very impressive foyer and a smooth process of greeting and room allocation, even with a large group. The breakfast and dinner were the best we had in any hotel in Turkey. There is nothing close by worth walking to. The pool is okay - we weren't interested in spa facilities as this was an overnight stop on a tour of the surrounding area.

Room Tip: Not sure if they have non-smoking rooms but our linen certainly smelled of smoke.

We stayed at Kaya Izmir Thermal Hotel in October 2014. We were with a tour group. The hotel staff checked us in quickly and handled our baggage without delay. We had a fabulous breakfast buffet, one of the best we had during the 2 week tour. The hotel is elegant and our large room was really comfortable, clean and quiet, with a good sized bathroom. I didn't have time to enjoy the pools, but they were really beautiful. If we ever get back to Izmir, we'd stay here again.
