We spent four days in Djerba at this hotel and the people were very nice. The rooms were big, clean and nice decorated. Very calm and in front of the sea.
They had a big terrace and a pool outside. There was a terrace inside as well.
There was wifi everywhere, not at the terrace, but it worked quite well.

We went to dar el bhar for our honey moon. The hotel could seem a little "old" or "standard" from outside but it is all the opposite. The staff is wonderfully friendly, from the first discussion with them we felt welcome. We arrived at 6 in the morning and the gentleman was very helpful. The rooms are really nice and cozy with an authemtic djerbian tunisian decoration, you feel that it was picked up nicely. In the hotel you feel like you are home, total freedom. The restaurant is just infront of the nice beach, breakfast is served there in a buffet and wverything is delicious with anexcellent variety. The view from the pool is amazing. We stayed 6 days and in our lst day the staff were so nice they provide us a room to shower which is so generous from their part. The atmosphere is light and friendly and the hotel is super. Would come again and again.

Hospitality outstanding! Marwa the head receptionist is precious, incredibly helpful, charming........perfect..... The minute you walk into this small hotel you feel like you are at home. Dar el Bhar means House by the Sea. The inside courtyard is absolutly beautiful, the rooms very clean and authenique, furnished in the local tradition. If possible choose the suites which overlook the pool and beach. The restaurant is good but nothing more, order the fresh caught fish of the day, this is what they do best. The evenings are frequented by locals with a lively ambiance. The staff will go out of their way to make sure your stay is memorable as if you had been invited into their home. In a way you have, this is the "House by the Sea".

Room Tip: If permitted, choose a suite.

Stayed in Djerba for a month on business, and had to chop and change. Found this place exactly what I needed. Staff are really friendly and most speak reasonable English. It's not hectic, nice and laid back. Food at dinner is excellent. Reception staff are friendly and fun.

Room Tip: Broadband in most rooms, and WiFi in and near reception. All rooms open onto a central courtyard (Sun trap)

The rooms at this hotel have names, not numbers. This is perfectly summarizes what makes it a special place to stay. From arrival to departure you are given personal service from staff who genuinely want you enjoy your stay.
English is spoken by most staff, but to varying standards. Given that most of the visitors are French or German it is a reflection on the regular clientele but if one member is struggling to understand, then another will probably be able to help.
We stayed in a suite overlooking the pool and beach, with a splendid terrace. If you can choose a suite then this is a worthwhile upgrade. The room was large with plenty of storage. The bathroom was a little small by comparison.
Breakfast is served in a separate building which is half bar and half restaurant. The restaurant area extends to a terrace on the beach and this is a lovely spot for breakfast. Omelettes and crepes are made to order and there is a buffet offering a variety of breads, pastries, fruit, cheeses and meat. It is good, if not exceptional, but more than adequate.
The bar is frequented by locals in the evenings as well as hotel guests so has more of a lively local atmosphere than an impersonal international hotel.
There is a formal restaurant in the main hotel building but in the end we did not eat in there so cannot review. There was no particular reason, other than lots of restaurant choices, so do not read anything into this. There are plenty of taxis passing outside the hotel to take you anywhere on the island. The hotel can also arrange an English speaking driver if you wish.
Poolside there are enough beds for all guests and there are also beds on the beach itself if you wish. There is a main pool and also a small paddling pool.
There is no piped music throughout. There is no 'animation' team to fabricate 'entertainment'. Families with school age children may struggle to keep them occupied and I would say generally this is an ideal hotel for couples and friends, and possibly for families with pre-school children.
For the most part the hotel is peaceful and has a relaxed atmosphere. During our stay this was sadly interrupted by the Telemaque hotel next door. Reviews of that hotel tell of the wonderful Bravo club animation team and the music and dancing. Sadly the noise of this 'entertainment' crosses easily to its peaceful neighbour and briefly disturbs the normal tranquility.
The biggest positive aspect of staying here is the staff and the personal service. They are not perfect but their enthusiasm and selflessness make up for any deficiencies. On our last day they kindly provided a day-room for us to use until our evening departure to the airport. A gesture we really appreciated.
We selected the hotel based on reviews here on TA. We booked through booking.com. I mention this because this bypassed any language difficulty and the hotel's own website.
Overall, this is a pleasant small independent hotel where you are a name, not a number.

Room Tip: Suite with a sea view and terrace. Worth the extra.
