We had a wonderful stay in Stonecliff. The garden and terrasses of the house are great, the views are stunning. So plan also some lazy time on the terrasse in your programme. Kitchen is well equipped. The two rooms are confortable. Living room is quite dark but you will be mostly outside. It is quiet and relaxing. Only minor negative point is that we sometimes had to keep running the water in the shower for more than 15 minutes for it to heat up finally. Calheta is well situated to visit the island. The marina of calheta is just a few minutes away from the house (by car). It is not a charming marina, but there are some good restaurants (try New Era, Manifaturra di Gelato and Convento Das Vinhas next to the museum) and a well assorted supermarket. The island is beautiful, bring your walking shoes and rent a car. Funchal is 30 minutes away.
I stayed at this property over the New Year, 2016/17. The cottage is very private, but is also very well located. The nearest supermarket is within walking distance, albeit that the walk back from it is all uphill! The bus service to Funchal, the main city of the island, runs along the coast road from Arco da Calheta to Calheta village, and the nearest stop is a few minutes walk from the cottage.
There are several restaurants located nearby, on the way to/from the supermarket. You would probably want to drive to these, although they are walkable.
The property offers excellent views up the coast in the general direction of Funchal, and in good weather there is the temptation just to lie in the hammock reading a book and soaking up the sun, without going anywhere.
The cottage is an ideal place from which to explore the island, being relatively centrally located. It is also close to Funchal. You can travel right into the city by car, or park up in the fishing village of Camara de Lobos and take the bus into the city centre (or walk there and back, as I did one time only...it is a 12 mile round trip on foot).
On the whole, i would highly recommend this place. Your Madeira holiday starts here.
We spent 7 nights at the cottage and it was amazing. We had to force ourselves to go and look around the island as it was so easy just to sit and look out to sea all day. The cottage is perfect, the only thing lacking is a pool but to be honest you would pay six times the price if there was one. If you want a romantic few days in the sun then this is the place. Buy a weeks worth of food and wine and hide yourself away in this scheduled sun trap. We will be re booking for next year. You will need a car if staying here or the number of the local taxi so you can get to the local supermarket. There is a local bus service if a bit irregular. .

Really pleased with our one week stay here. Cottage is exactly as described. Stylish, well maintained, neat garden and absolutely stunning views over the ocean and the banana plants nearby. Great built in BBQ too.
