“Amazing, Wonderful and much more besides”

I have been back in the UK for one day and already I am planning to return. I have just come back from 10 days at Pomba Branca with my husband and 2 children aged 5 and 2 and to say we have had a wonderful holiday would be an understatement.

Gabriel, the owner was an absolute gentleman and so easy to deal with. Before we went he organised our very late at night transfer for us and made sure that the driver could let us in to the apartment. On the very first morning my 5 year old son locked the safe before I could set it (with all of our money, passports etc inside). Gabriel came and sorted it all out for us and nothing was too much trouble. I even had his mobile number and anytime I needed help with anything he was always there to do what he could.

The apartment itself was even lovelier than the photos suggested. On the ground floor was a big kitchen with all of the appliances you could wish for. There was a very handy downstairs toilet which meant the children didn't have to go upstairs all the time. The sitting room was a great size with a big dining table and comfy sofas. For the one day of rain we had access to BBC, ITV and CBeebies which kept everyone occupied. The sitting room opened out on to a large patio with table, chairs, sunloungers etc and then out of a child proof gate to the pool. It was wonderful to sit out and eat looking over the pool and also being able to watch the kids easily from downstairs. Upstairs were 2 good size bedrooms , both with onsuite bathrooms and one had a large terrace. It really was beautiful. There was also a secure underground car park for the hire car.

The beach was a few minutes walk and we spent pretty much every day there as it was a fabulous beach with lots of bars and restaurants - Olhos D'Agua was perfect (for us anyway) as although it had bars, restaurants, supermarket, shops etc it wasn't built up and so felt more local and was a lot quieter than Albufeira. Having travelled around we definitely knew we had picked the right area to stay in.

In a nutshell, the area is perfect, the apartment is wonderful and even better in real life and Gabriel makes renting off him easy. The children had a brilliant time and we relaxed fully. I would definitely recommend the apartment and the area to anyone who wanted a relaxing time but who wanted restaurants etc nearby and to be close to the beach.

“Lovely Apartment with Direct Access to Large Pool”

This apartment, in common with most of the other small number of apartments within this complex, has a very easy direct access to the pool. Once you step out your back patio door, you are then into your own small patio area within a few steps of the pool. However, if you have toddlers, there is a small wall and gate to keep them safely away from the pool. The patio area of this particular apartment retains the sun until very late afternoon and this lets you maintain a close supervision on your children in the pool, whilst still topping up your tan. The apartment’s patio area is well provided (with four loungers and mats, and four chairs), so there is no dreaded early morning race to reserve poolside furniture required. The pool itself is very large and, given the relatively small number of apartments, never gets crowded. With recessed windows, shutters and three air conditioning units, the apartment always stays relatively cool.

The lounge is a good size; with two large sofas (to seat five) and a sizeable dining table (to seat six) …the rather dark photograph shown on their website does it little favours. The TV is a relatively smallish CRT model and there’s no DVD player, but there are plenty of English speaking satellite channels (including all of the BBC local regions). Consequently, bring your own DVD player if you can (incidentally, the TV has a scart connection). There was also a good supply of books in English provided (but no DVDs, for obvious reasons).

The kitchen contained all the usual mod cons and the apartment was kept very clean, and towels and linen were regularly replaced. One word of warning though, there were only glass tumblers provided, so bring your own plastic drinking cups if you have any small children.

There is a separate downstairs toilet, of particular convenience (no pun intended) when visiting from the patio/pool. However, in common with all of the bathrooms, you do need to provide your own soap and toilet rolls during your stay; also, if you require a hairdryer, you will need to bring your own.

Both bedrooms (on the upper floor) have their own ensuite and the larger (twin) bedroom has a small basic unfolding foam-filled chair bed to easily accommodate a third child (as we required).

The gated Pomba Branca complex itself is secure and is very centrally located (on the main road running through the town). It gives easy access to the chief road down to the town’s beach and there are also several other beautiful beaches within relatively easy walking distance. It is particularly worth visiting the town’s beach area late in the evening, when it is somewhat cooler, as the seafront area really comes to life with lots of stalls, shops and restaurants to keep you and your family entertained.

During our ten day stay, the complex seemed to be occupied by a wide mix of nationalities (including Portuguse, Spanish, French, Dutch and British). There are two sizeable supermarkets within a short walk of the apartment, together with a considerable number of good quality restaurants and small touristy shops. Olhos de Aqua is a small but busy family orientated town, and seems to attract a very wide mix of nationalities. It is only a half hour transfer time from Faro airport and this represents an affordable taxi ride. All in all, a car is definitely not essential; during our ten day stay, we used a taxi only once (for an evening trip to Albufeira).

All in all, a lovely apartment that we really hope to return to soon.
