“Amazing holiday home and wonderful area to explore”
Reviewed 9 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Mark and Clair could not have been more helpful even before our holiday began. The house was exactly as is shown in the pictures and the ambiance surpassed our expectations. The upper roof terrace was a true delight and the downstairs outside space a wonderful place to eat. The weather was so good we didn't use the lounge or the dinning room the whole time we were there!! The beds were extremely comfortable and the fans provided very welcome. The village is in a good position for exploration of the area and Patricia in the Café opposite could not have been more welcoming and her lunches very tasty! Altogether a fantastic holiday experience. Thank you Mark, Clair and Patricia.

“Thoroughly recommended as a great place to stay and excellent people to deal with”
Reviewed 8 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

My wife and I stayed at Le Vieux Cafe in Bouriege for a fortnight in July 2014. Before we even arrived, I had found Claire and Mark were both extremely helpful in all of my dealings with them by email. They had given me advice and help and even took the trouble to ring me to check that we were all prepared and ready and to liaise over meeting us on arrival. On arrival, Mark showed us around the house and gave us a very comprehensive run down on all of the features of the house - how to operate everything from the TV to the washing machine. He gave us a full run down of all the kitchen appliances and a tour of the house from top to bottom, including the courtyard and the roof terrace. He even drew us a map to find the nearest supermarket in Limoux because my SatNav had a temporary fault. Until his return to the UK a few days later, Mark checked in on us a couple of times to ensure that we were happy and settling in well - he was always very pleasant and helpful. On the one occasion during our stay that I wanted some advice, Mark was easy to contact my mobile phone.
The house itself is lovely and was spotlessly clean when we arrived. The kitchen has every appliance that you might need - including a handblender which was very useful for making soup! Claire has produced a helpful booklet with information about how to use the oven, microwave etc. All of the crockery, cutlery and other essential kitchen kit is all there for you including a dishwasher.
The courtyard is great - the kids enjoyed playing darts outside and the washing line is very handy. We entertained some friends from Limoux one evening and easily sat 8 of us around the table outside. Birdwatchers may be interested to know that Black Redstart breed in the courtyard and Green Woodpecker and Golden Oriole can be regularly heard in the wooded areas nearby.
The beds are very comfortable and Mark and Claire have thoughtfully provided electric fans for when it is really warm. My nephew loved the bedroom on the top floor open landing.
The new bathroom/shower room is also very nice and we had been provided with heaps of clean towels.
The best place to park is just up past the house about 50 metres away in a small car parking spot near the river. This was perfectly convenient for us although there is a much closer spot right next to the house where a small car could park.
The small reading room on the top floor was a big hit with the bookworms in the family and two of our children could often be found there in the evenings - reading, knitting and using their laptops. The roof terrace proved to be a very relaxing place to sit in the evenings, chatting and enjoying a bottle of wine and some of the excellent local food whilst watching the Swallows, House Martins, Crag Martins and Swifts pass overhead. However early morning seemed to be the best time of day for spotting large birds of prey passing over.
Throughout our stay, we were very comfortable and Mark and Claire have done everything to make sure that the house is a really great place to stay.
The cafe right next door is also very handy. Patricia who runs it was helpful and pleasant to chat to and was happy to let the children use the wifi connection whilst they sat and had a cold drink inside the cafe
Bouriege is very conveniently located for Limoux (about 10-15 mins away) and Limoux has very convenient shops and two good supermarkets (Super U and E Le Clerc). We recommend Le Commerce on Place de la République as a great place to watch the Tour de France on TV in the afternoons whilst eating ice cream and drinking Diablos - the staff are great and the Patron is very indulgent to cycling fans. There are heaps of great castles to explore within an hours drive. Also Carcassonne and Mirepoix are well worth visiting. And outdoor swimming at Alet-les-Bains was very enjoyable. The Bastille Day fireworks in Limoux were also well worth watching. Plenty to see and do.
Overall, the house was excellent value and we would definitely return at some point in time when the boys have finished their A levels. Our thanks and best wishes to Mark and Claire.

“Perfect holiday let”
Reviewed 25 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We stayed with our 18 month old toddler at Le Vieux in the last week of August and had an absolutely fantastic time. The house is beautiful and was a wonderful home from home with everything we could have needed including toys. We loved the courtyard which meant our little boy had freedom to play while we could sit and relax. The roof terrace was perfect to have breakfast and look at the fabulous view and in the evening to sit with a glass of Limoux and watch the stars. There's so much to do in the area from swimming in gorges, to exploring Cathar castles and Medieval market towns. We found it a perfect location to get to them but we also loved just relaxing and walking in the hills locally. There's a cafe / restaurant next door run by a lovely lady called Patricia so we made friends and had a couple of meals there which were delicious. Have to say it was the best place we've rented yet and will definitely be going back!

“Perfect location for memorable family holiday”
Reviewed 15 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We received an extremely warm welcome from the owner when we arrived on the Sunday afternoon. We were made to feel right at home and what a lovely home! Set in the peaceful village of Bouriege, this house has everything you need for a family holiday (even plenty of toys to keep the children entertained). We absolutely loved the outside courtyard and we enjoyed dinner on the roof terrace with lovely views over the surrounding countryside each evening. The property also benefits from a large, well equipped kitchen, with everything you need. We experienced 11 days of sunshine and relaxation and were very sad to leave this beautiful part of the world. There is plenty to do within easy reach of the property - Carcassonne is around a 30 minute drive away and there are plenty of pretty villages to explore in the area. We also enjoyed going for a swim at Puivert lake; a picturesque setting with a Cathar castle as part of the backdrop. The beach at Narbonne was also within easy reach. There is also plenty to do if you like a bit of adventure - white water rafting, rock climbing etc in the Pyrenees/ foothills of the Pyrenees within less than 30 minutes drive.
We can't wait to visit again- thank you very much Mark & Clare for your kind hospitality and for the privilege of staying in your lovely house.
