Understanding just how people managed to live in caves in the mountains is made easier by visiting this excellent new centre. Do make the time to watch the film ( commentary available in several languages including english). You can then drive or walk a couple of kilometers to the actual rock and climb up and through the actual cave. Therecis also a very good small cafe next to the centre.

Amazing place. We doesn't visited the museum, but spent a lot of time exploring the caves of Fortaleza. It's so misterious, so unusual and ancient. We started from tunnel and saw several small caves and two huge on the right side from tunnel. Be carefull, it's difficult to get to huge right-side caves and may be dangerous, because of narrow and curved path above the chasm. Path to left-side caves is more comfortable and safe. But it was great adventure!

Entry is €4. The museum is well cared for and boasts some interesting artifacts from the times indigenous Canarians lived in the area. You can watch a reconstruction of their lives and rituals, visit the museum room with the abovementioned objects and illustrations, and walk upstairs to admire a typical ancient cave home.
It won't take you more than half an hour.
Toilets and drinks on site.
Make sure you drive on for a few more minutes to see the cave nearby and the dam view in between.
