For the price of a night in a faceless hotel on the beach, spend a week in the mountains at this cosy converted loft.

It's a one bedroom apartment with a shared pool sitting in a narrow street above Santa Lucia.

It's good for solo, couples and small families. It's clean, has a good host and is on airbnb.

Excellent quality-wifi and amazing views make this the best place for me in the Canaries.

Downsides- parking and dogs in the village below

The apartments of El Olivar are situated in a very pretty little village (santa lucia) in the centre of Gran Canaria. The benefits of this location are a very peaceful setting, walking distance to the village and restaurants, beautiful rural surroundings, authentic atmosphere. But it also has his downsides. You're far away from all the rest of the island because of the very twisting mountainroads and the weather in the centre is upredictable. It's often colder, cloudy and rainy here, whilst the coast is sunny and hot.
That said, mostly good things about this rustic place.
Our apartment (la Oliva, split-level) was very spacious. It had a cosy and rustic interior. Everthing you need was there. The balcony is a bonus for breakfast, apero. Nice to have a swimmingpool, not big but refreshing.
Nice open view from the balcony and the pool.
We were charmed by the location in the cute little town of Santa Lucia.

These apartments have been nicely renovated- they look a bit basic when you first arrive and the kitchen is not very well equipped, but they were warmer than we expected and the courtyards are a delight. The balcony, pool and outside areas are lovely too. The main issue is that there are 3 ways in to this pretty mountain town, all of which involve very bendy and often scary drives up. So you need to be aware of this if you choose to stay here. The town is small but lovely and we had 3 good meals out in the different restaurants in the town. If you want to stay in Santa Lucia I would highly recommend these flats.

Room tip: This is not a hotel but self catering - choose your apartment carefully - some have double beds and some 2 singles you push together.
