To ensure a balanced review I need to start by describing the real positives of this hotel. In short it is very professionally run, well maintained, pleasant staff, and in a lovely position with terraced rooms set in truly beautiful gardens and good pools. I would return to stay (we had a junior suite with very good sea views); however unless it changes I would not eat here apart from breakfast (which although a buffet is good with plenty of choice).
We booked their meal plan (MP), an inclusive dinner plan, but restricted to attendance at the main buffet restaurant. This restaurant is devoid of even a modicum of atmosphere, stark lighting, white paint everywhere, no art work or attempt at softening, a bit like a large hospital canteen. The buffet food would please those who want quantity at the price of quality....it's a buffet! Bland salad starters, lots of drying food and over cooked vegetables lurking in in large dishes, with the minor saving grace of a fish and meat counter where items are cooked freshly. Dessert selection but unremarkable. Its not bad food it's just boring and bland. This costs about E250 per week for two.
If you wish to escape you can go to one of 4 other restaurants which offer a 'tasting' menu (6 course menu) for about E10 each in addition to the MP. The system of booking is an unbelievable nightmare, surely designed for the convenience of the management rather than the pleasure of the guests. Bear with me and I'll explain!
To book you need to plan one or more days in advance, by speaking to a receptionist, who will retrieve a major spreadsheet, which shows which restaurant is open on which night, and what type of tasting menu it will serve on your chosen night. You then flip through menus and decide what you fancy. Reception then have to ring and book. When we tried on 4 occasions the restaurant was already booked, and so back to spreadsheet and around the process again. One looses the will to live, and who wants to decide 3 days in advance (if you want a chance of getting a table) what you want to eat?
A final option is to book a restauarant and opt for the a la carte menu option. This costs about E30 per person ON TOP OF the MP rate. We tried the International (Canarian) restaurant, and without boring you with detail it was very poor, one course sent back as inedible.
So great venue, average food, and chaotic food organisation. We are longer in the tooth and have visited many dozens of hotels/resorts worldwide, and whilst we have visited worse establishments we have never seen such a stupid food regime.
I would certainly return and recommend the hotel to you, but unless they change the food organisation I would go B&B and eat in Playa Santiago which has 4 or 5 good to pleasant restaurants, two run by local families.

Room tip: Junior suite and ask for sea view (but no guarantee!)

Just home from a fabulous stay at Hotel Jardin Tecina. Wonderful location, great food, friendly and helpful staff. The main attraction for me was the piano bar where most nights you could listen to Anne-Tina play a variety of musical styles on the piano. Classically trained, she is able to play soft classics, show tunes, smooth jazz, and she will come to your table with a smile and ask if you have any requests.

Wonderful relaxing holiday in a peaceful beautiful location. I'll be going back.

A slightly belated review of a fabulous 15 night stay over Christmas & New Year.
This was our fifth visit to La Gomera and Jardin Tecina and we were not disappointed!!
This is the place where one can hear the silence!! ... just what we needed after a hectic year .... peace, relaxation, sun, sea, amazing views, wonderful meals.
For a busy hotel, it is amazing the solitude that can be found as it is cleverly designed along the cliff top. One can do as little or as much as the mood takes ..... walking, swimming, partaking of the daily timetable of fitness classes including pilates and yoga, touring the island, relaxing.
Breakfast is delightful and can be eaten outdoors, in the sunshine, looking out over the ocean. A variety of restaurants offer excellent choices for dinner after which we enjoyed a drink in Bar Kristina, entertained by a wonderfully talented pianist Anne-Tina.
We are already planning our return trip!

Calm and nice compared to the Teneriffa hotels crowded strandwalk. Rooms surrounded by well kept garden and plants make the surrounding green. Good food, and a comfortable bar area with pianist Anne-Tina makes a perfect evening!

This was our third time at HJT and we think that standards have been maintained. We asked for a room overlooking the garden and room 17 has an excellent view of the garden and the beautiful trees. The room has been recently refurbished and is very good indeed. The breakfast and dinner are as good as ever and apart from two days, when it was a bit windy, we ate outside morning and evening. We very much enjoyed a tour of the island with VSV Tours which was organised by our Classic Connections rep. We would like to thank all the staff at HJT for their care and hospitality. A comment, not criticism, is that we have always enjoyed the garden but we thought that this year it had not been watered as well and the blossom was less. I know that there has been little rain and perhaps they have had to economise on the watering?
