Remembered tonight just how good the food was at Junonia in Playa de Santiago on La Gomera! Friendly family run restaurant since 1989 with such amazing flavours...if six stars were available then this would certainly qualify...booked another two meals here before we leave the resort!

In our opinion the Juonia restaurant is the best one we tried on the seafront. It’s towards the port and unfortunately, like all the shops and restaurants along that stretch, there were building work happening on the promenade in front which should be finished by the end of the year. It’s set back a bit and is more discreet and classy than the friendly and less formal Don Tomate restaurant next door. Juonia has excellent presentation with classy table linen, imaginative and stylish crockery and nice wine glasses. We eat on the terrace (cooler in August) and booking is essential especially in high season – the place was packed and hopeful diners were being turned away. We were served automatically with tasty bread and mojo – the local dips. One green dip was based on coriander and garlic and was divine (the best version we came across in La Gomera) the other red dip was peppers / tomato / chilli (?) and had quite a kick. We shared a starter of Ceviche which melted in the mouth – absolutely superb. Our main courses were grilled fish of the day (dorada, a moist tasty white fish, big serving) with the obligatory Canarian potatoes and Tortelloni filled with ricotta in a delicious sauce. The latter were very nice and very filling by the time I’d had 8 of them. We couldn’t manage desserts but they looked very interesting and were stylishly presented. Service was very friendly and helpful despite the place being full. The bill, including a mini bottle of Cava, a glass of wine and a bottle of mineral water, came to €46.50 without tip. Considering the quality of the cooking, this was excellent value for money and indeed we went back the next week. Make this place your first choice for a classy meal in Playa Santiago.

We have two very fusy children, but they we so well looked after when the chef went out of her way to cook them spaghetti! We had the paella which is the best on the Island. Very filling. On another occasion we had the dorada which again was fantastic. Waiters are extremely attentive and friendly. Highly recommended a visit!

Having visited HPB La Gomera two years previously and dined at the then fabulous La Mooma, we were disappointed to find that restaurant had changed hands. So we ventured a little further around the harbour to find Junonia. An absolute jewel! Clean, crisp, white linen tablecloths, neatly and correctly laid table settings and clean, polished glasses. The service was attentive and extremely polite and knowledgeable. This is a fish restaurant that will not disappoint. The pesca was fresh and so tasty. The Prosecco Anna and white wine was delicious. Everything about our evening from beginning to end was first class. We then discovered that the owner and chef used to own the Mooma as well but decided to concentrate on this business alone. And the next very pleasant surprise was the bill, extremely reasonable. One would pay twice the amount for this quality of food and level if service in the UK. Highly recommended, but make sure you book. It is, as you might imagine, very popular with visitors and locals alike. We will return soon.

Went here on our last evening in la Gomera, and it was a really great dinner. The clams in white wine sauce were delicious, as were the crispy prawns. All the dishes we had were great. The service was friendly, and the prices reasonable. What more could you ask?
