Owner description: Phillipskop Mountain Reserve protects 246ha of beautiful fynbos on the slopes of the Klein River Mountains. It is also home to Phillipskop Cave, an important local heritage site due to the presence of rock art - the only recorded rock art on the Cape Whale Coast. There are a range of hiking trails for all abilities leading to a small waterfall, the peak of Phillipskop itself, interesting rock formations, such as the David and Goliath Rock Stacks, as well as lots of magnificent views. The trails can be combined into longer circular routes. WATERFALL HIKING TRAIL (3.5km) An easy, more or less level, hike to a small waterfall with a popular picnic spot underneath a beautiful rock candlewood tree. This is also the route to take to access Phillipskop Cave. ROCK STACKS HIKING TRAIL (3km) A short climb up to admire the two rock stacks, David and Goliath, with great views on the way back across the fields of the Overberg. This trail is good to combine with the Waterfall Hiking Trail for a circular route. SADDLE HIKING TRAIL (4km) A chance to reach the highest parts of the reserve. Beautiful views from the Saddle into the hidden valley behind Phillipskop. You can go from here up to the peak itself or onto the ridge of the Klein River Mountains to look down on Tesselaarsdal.

If you love nature, mountains and fynbos this is the perfect place! The self catering houses are well equipped in the most beautiful, peaceful environment, yet close to civilisation and good restaurants if you do not feel like cooking. The hiking trails are well laid out (we did some trail running) and the views are incredible.
Our nephew and niece visited and loved the "treasure hunt" geocaching - what a treat!
We will definitely be back!

Can definitely recommend to nature lovers and seekers of peace and tranquility. Standford Valley has an abundance of restaurants and wine farms if feel the need to explore. Walks in the reserve was amazing.

A hiking weekend to remember. Beautiful mountains, views, fynbos and good company. We hiked to the highest point overlooking Teslaarsdal and just sat and enjoyed the views. We summited Phillipskop on the way back. On the second day we did a shorter route to the summit of Klein Phillipskop. The accommodation was five star which was the cherry on the top

Thanks Geoff - glad you enjoyed the range of different hikes for the weekend. I agree if one gets to the highest point the 360 degree views are spectacular - from Sir Lowry's Pass to Swellendam on a clear day.

We were a group of 14 hiking friends and utilised 3 cottages. Philipskop Mountain Reserve is an excellent spot for hiking, photography and generally for just chilling and enjoying the splendid views that this reserve offers one, both on top of the mountain and on the deck of your cottage. The cottages are very spacious, comfortable and well equipped with attention to detail. We had a great time and all of us are keen to return!

A group of hiking friends visited Phillipskop nature reserve recently and we only had positive things to say about the reserve. The cottages were clean, well equipped, spacious and perfect for groups to stay in. The hikes were well laid out and well sign posted and suitable for both the fit and not so fit. The circular route to the top to overlook Tesselaarsdal was really worth doing with stunning 360 degree views around. Thanks for a great weekend, we'll be back!

Thanks Sue, we are pleased that you enjoyed it all round. We have tried to create a variety of hikes so that everyone can do at least one - but glad you made it to the Tesselaardsdal viewpoint which is stunning.
