We stayed at this hotel in August and were immersed in high holiday season for what appeared to be Italian regulars. The hotel was clean, professionally run with a great pool and a short walk across the street to the beach. Breakfast was included and was a huge buffet in a cafeteria-style setting. There was an optional buffet dinner for 25 Euros that looked equally impressive, though we opted for quieter dinners at nearby restaurants. We felt a bit out of place as a non-Italian couple but would highly recommend it for those traveling with children, as there many families with small children and lots of kid-friendly activities.

Unfortunately we had a old room which was not renovated according to the booking pictures. But the rooms were good in regards of size and tidiness. Balcony and warm water shower would have been great. We just had breakfast there...the room therefore was not really nice, not well equipped, no place for us until we were complaining at reception. The worst was that it was noisy as hell. We couldn't really sleep and relaxe. Need to mention that there were almost solely families with young kids. Good was the beach and the distance to the hotel. The village Lacona itself is really small and probably the ugliest one on Elba. No stores, less restaurants and no beach promenade. The staff didn't speak English which was sometimes really hard.

Firstly the hotel reception has an automatic sliding door that my husband ran into.The glass is very clear and I can see many accidents happening.
The called Uppala Hotel Lacona per trip adviser is really called CLUB LACONA very hard to find.
Our room 103 is attached to the bar and outside disco so if you are not a heavy drinker or dancer would ask for another room.
Staff are not well trained the hotel is like a seniors club med,
They have tried to update the interiors with some good results besides the front door.
Breakfast is crowded and noisy,
They do have a nice pizza restaurant on the beach that only take cash

Room tip: 101,2,3 avoid near bar and disco unless you like that

Positive sides: surrounded in nice park, clean, near of the beech. Hotel quit. Shop and bar in the same house, and other restaurants and pharmacy near. All functions. Meals-buffet very good. The price of residence rather low ;-).
Beech good for everybody, even for the families. Round the golf of Lacona fortunately no big houses. Good tavernas near and only 8 km to Capolivery, beautiful little town on the hill.
Less positive sides:
Service personal at the reception kind but rather inexperienced.
The outfit of the residence from the begin from early -70s, but still good enough. ( the hotel much better )

First the good:
positive booking experience (booked direct with the hotel);
very pleasant staff (those we met at reception, meal times and the pool);
great pool (though with a very short shallow end which tended to be busy - did not affect us);
nice clean rooms (reasonable size, we had adjoining rooms which were set up specifically for two parents and two children i.e. no mini bar in the children's room);
great beach (I would say better than Procchio, the only other we tried, though both were good);
very good service generally (which was much appreciated);
sports (tennis and table tennis available on site, the pool etc).

Now the niggles:
there is definitely a family-with-young-children slant to the offering - not necessarily to the exclusion of other groups, but evident nonetheless;
breakfast and dinner - while the dining area is well thought out and the food is generally of good quality, the whole experience has the feel of a works canteen. OK for breakfast, dinner felt a little rushed (please note however that unless you have a car the dining options in Lacona are fairly limited, though we found at least one excellent restaurant nearby);
beach club - I realise this is a problem across Italy but the sunbeds and parasols really do crowd out the available space (the beach is a 3 minute walk away, across the main road).

In summary, if you are a family with small children this is a great choice. If your party falls into another group you may find, like we did, there is the odd niggle (though they did not spoil our stay here).
