The website pictures look attractive but the reality is not quite so good.
It is certainly a beautiful old mill but one needs to be aware that the garden is in quite a dell and therefore damp with little sun and quite a lot of mosquitos. There is a pool but it is very cold and in the middle of the dinning room surrounded by Persian rugs, so not that inviting.
We were met on arrival by a very nice girl who seemed to perform many tasks including reception, porter and I think we even saw her dressed to clean the rooms. She gallantly carried our cases up 3 flights of stairs having said she would get a porter. We would certainly not have been expected her to and neither should the management.
Dinner was very over priced both in terms of food and wine, also not only was each course very minimalist , it wasn’t that good either. Lacking in flavour and rather messed about with for effect.
Breakfast had to be pre planned the night before both in terms of time and content. Apparently this was so that every thing was prepared fresh and ready when required, which seemed admirable , other than one was then restricted and unable to change ones mind in terms of what you fancied for breakfast or perhaps get up later or earlier which is the enjoyment of being on holiday.

Room tip: One without too many stairs

Situated in the hills north of Fortei de Marmi about 15 minutes from the beach areas and less to the inland areas for great country restaurants. Superb rooms, lovely grounds, indoor pool situated inside the dining room! Very odd. Great summer bar outside. Helpful and professional staff. Breakfast is ridiculously expensive and not worth the money at 25Epp. Good walking nearby. Restaurant seemed to be empty most nights so lacked atmosphere.

Room tip: All looked excellent.

The service level at il Bottaccio is truly exceptional and unlike anything one might receive in the US. The staff is outgoing and treats everyone like a VIP. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the food is outstanding, as one would expect at a Relais and Chateaux property. Highly recommended.

This property was very disappointing especially for an upscale hotel. It is a failed attempt to take the unusual (a renovated mill of some sort) and make it into a unique destination. The neighborhood had nothing to draw our interest and we checked out two days early to find a better venue.

This boutique hotel is a great place to stay and enjoy the ambiance of a beautiful old building, refurbished and decorated with lots of pieces of art, that keeps the atmosphere of an exclusive small hotel.
There are only 8 rooms, but they are all having different set ups and design.
The attention to detail and the service of the personnel are exceptional.
Irina, the manager, makes sure that all guests are happy and taking care of.
There is a beautiful garden, where were spending some time with our son, reading and admiring the plants the decorations.
We stayed only 4 days and we didn’t get the opportunity to have dinner in their restaurant, although, I heard that the food is well prepared and delicious.
We are, definitely, coming back to this hotel.
