A friend and I just returned from a week at Cocobay and it was absolute paradise. Check in was a breeze, very friendly, helpful and welcoming staff from the get-go made for a great first impression. The views from all around this resort are top notch. Both infinity pools look out into the ocean and it is total bliss. The beach is amazing and there was never a shortage of loungers.

Food - breakfast buffet was quite typical of any all inclusive and was more than sufficient. The lady that makes the omelettes is a total sweetheart. The lunch buffet was slightly different each day and usually consisted of a few different types of salads and a different type of fish cooked on the grill each day. There is also an option for panini sandwiches at one of the pool areas that are delicious. With respect to the food, dinner is really what set this resort apart from any other all inclusive I've stayed at. All dinners are a-la-carte and making daily reservations was very easy. The quality of the food at dinner was nothing short of amazing. Each dinner consisted of a 4 course meal (appetizer, soup, main course and desert). The portions were just right and we never left feeling hungry. We did overhear some people complaining that the portion sizes were too small however all you have to do is ask for another dish or an extra portion and they are happy to oblige. The drinks are great- premium alcohol, not watered down, great options to enjoy.

Staff - 99% of the staff we met were extremely friendly, helpful and always willing to share information about the country. The names that stick out the most for us are Renee from the dining room (very friendly with a contagious laugh and bubbly personality). Also a shout out to Nasasha at the concierge. She went above and beyond for us on more than one occasion, from fixing our brief wifi glitch to booking us an excursion. She represents the resort in the best way possible and deserves recognition for sure. Also has that contagious happy personality that you love when you're on vacation. If you're planning on doing an excursion, do yourself a favour and book through her. Can't say enough good things about this lady. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!!!

Room - private cottage style which is fantastic. Pictures you see online are very accurate. The particular cottage we stayed in definitely had some type of animal living in the roof/attic that to me sounded like bats- at no time were they in the room but we could definitely hear them doing their thing at night. It didn't really bother us but a few other people we spoke to also said they could hear animals of some type living in the attic/roof and they were a bit more bothered. At the end of the day, you are staying in a room surrounded by nature and this is all part of the unique experience. Embrace it for what it is and have a great time. Housekeeping is fantastic. No issues there whatsoever.

A couple of cons that are worth mentioning -

It was VERY difficult to make change for tips. It's very clear that the staff do not expect tips but we always like to reward good service however we quickly ran out of smaller denomination bills and trying to exchange 20's and even 10's was way harder than it should have been (front desk and gift shop both unable to). We tried asking some bar tenders if they'd give us their 1's or 5's in exchange for 10's or 20's (which on other resorts, the staff are more than happy to do) but in this case we were declined every time and one of them responded rudely with "I'm not a bank" (this was literally the only time we had an issue with an unfriendly staff member - hardly worth mentioning, but it rubbed us the wrong way).

One other con worth mentioning is there are only a few umbrellas near the pool areas and we felt that there definitely could have and should have been a few more. The afternoon sun is relentless and it would have been nice to have some additional options for shade. There were plenty of chairs and loungers available at all times, but there definitely should have been more umbrellas.

We had a couple of "encounters" with the biggest cockroaches we have EVER seen. Again, you're surrounded by nature and the perfect hot climate for them and many other gross insects so this is in no way a reflection of the resort, it's just worth mentioning that you can request to have your room sprayed and they are happy to oblige.

Overall, I would 100% recommend staying here. The pros certainly outweigh the cons. Antigua is a beautiful island with beautiful people. The staff on the resort genuinely seem happy to be there and it is refreshing to see. Thanks for a great week.

Hello DLaz416,

Thank you for your comprehensive review.

From your cottage - to the views and surroundings, great food and beverage, we are very happy to know that you enjoyed these all.

When visiting the tropics it is likely to come in contact with some harmless unexplored creatures. We utilize scheduled pest terminating control.

Thank you for recognizing our greatest asset: our extremely friendly and helpful staff. Indeed Renee and Nasasha clearly add the topping. We must apologize for that one off discouraging experience.

We consider all comments, and rest assured that we strive towards total guest satisfaction.

"A fantastic week and 100% recommendation" - WOW!!!

Apologies for late review, stayed here in September for a week . Simply beautiful resort ,we stayed in cottage Number 2 which had its own plunge pool which was fantastic . the cottage was close to the reception so we didn't have far to walk to the restaurant and bar which was important for us lol . the beach was great and the sea was still warm , the infinity pool where we stayed most days was relaxing and the bar area superb , Vincia was quite simply fantastic and looked after all of us with a laugh ill never forget. The staff were incredible even turning up to look after us when we arrived back in the resort at night having been evacuated for the day because of the hurricane . this again was well organised and credit must go to the management team and staff who organised and looked after us so professionally . the food was great especially breakfast which set us up for the day. as I said the staff were brilliant ,Renee ,Sasha ,Jonathan to name a few ,but all resort staff were approachable with a nice hello and a smile on there face. this resort is simply paradise.and jules and I will definitely will be visiting for a longer stay soon . cant wait ! I even became a jet ski expert , but that's another story . Thanks Cocobay Neil and Julie xxx

Overall an excellent resort. Its right on the beach. Staff all accomodating. Im rating it as a 5. The only concern is the food. Not a lot of choice for either breakfast not lunch. Needs a bit more seasoning. Its an open air dining also. So if its hot and humid, might get a bit uncomfortable. All photos are taken from an iphone only. Not taken proffessionally. Antigua is gorgeous. Cocobay just made it a tad bit better. Thanks Cocobay.

Hello Nicole,

We are very pleased to know that you found an excellent resort with accommodating staff. Thank you for also giving us an overall excellent rating.

We hear your feedback in regards to the open air restaurant and some limited meal choices. To this we say that we are constantly improving our offerings towards total guest satisfaction.

We certainly appreciate your feedback and for complimenting the island and Cocobay.

This is our 2nd trip and we still love Cocobay BUT.... if it is not careful it will move from being 'shabby chic' (which we love) to just shabby. We love the low key nature of the place and the rooms but in places it is in need of a refurb.. eg chunks out of the bottom of the pool near the bar, nails sticking out of the wood round the pool, beach chairs broken/in need of new cushions etc. There is a clear attempt going on to tidy the place up as they were painting whilst we were there but there needs to be a bigger update. Having said all that we would still go back! The food is great and we love the fact that you sit down with a proper menu each night which is unusual for an all inclusive. The drinks are good quality and there is low key entertainment on some nights which is nice. The staff are great and always happy to help. The location is to die for which is why some probably overlook the small cosmetic issues. I do agree with other posters that the charge for the internet and water (in such a hot climate) is a bit steep - and guests who book direct seem to be favoured over those who don't on these items which seems unfair. Don't be put off by the minor gripes - it is a WONDERFUL romantic adults only resort and we will certainly book again at some point.

Room Tip: Ask for a room higher up the resort as the views are better. Ensure you have aircon! Avoid 51/52/53...

Thank you for sharing your feedback Sue, we were happy to have you back at Cocobay for a second time.

We know how much you guys love it here and we saw the wonderful photos that you shared. So there is no doubt that you take your reviews very seriously and so do we. From your positive observations, the gorgeous surroundings, the great food/drink options and the low key entertainment are exactly what many of our visitors look for in a boutique, All-inclusive resort. And we will continue to ensure that those remain top notch.

However, as you mentioned we are in the process of touching up those few cosmetic issues that you noticed after the passing of the storm. In fact I am happy to let you know what we have actually already upgraded all the beach chairs and loungers around the pool that you referred to. We had them in storage, but we wanted to wait until the period of bad weather had passed before we started adding the upgraded amenities. Our carpenters and maintenance team have also been discreetly moving through the property and addressing those other minor items that need repair. So those touch ups should be completed this week.

We assure you that no type of client is favored - we just have a much better opportunity to meet the specific needs of guests who have been in direct contact with the hotel. We love working through our partners, but we realize that at times there will be delays in communication and things will get lost in translation. This may cause the rare, but occasional hiccup. Nonetheless, we will work harder to ensure that ALL potential guests receive the necessary information and details about the available packages and amenities. So thank you for adding your views there.

Trip #3 is just around the corner - so we are looking forward to giving you the 5 star stay that you are used to from Cocobay Sue. We want to make sure your next review is titled "Loved It. Period!"

Cheers
Cocobay Management
