Have driven past the quant little village perched on a steep hill overlooking the maremma flat lands countless times and finally time permetted a visit. The only restaurant in town, speedy efficient service, simple menu with a few choices plus a vast pizza menu. Antipasti of crostini, great fat slices of tuscan bread with sausage, the other mushroom. Pasta of wild boar ragu and homemade tortelli. Don't go expecting pretty plates, this is wrap you up in Nonna's cuddle type of food, hearty, tasty and honest.
Dessert equally as good, homemade gooey chocolate pudding and cream catalana. Will be back to try the truffel pizza

Decided to wander the delightful town and have lunch. This was an excellent decision. Since we came for lunch on a Tuesday, we had no problem being seated without a reservation. My wife went the seafood route while I did beef.

My wife loves mussels and orders them often in Europe. When she moans at the first bite, I know she is aa happy lady. We both happily sopped up the sauce with bread. She followed up with the fresh pasta and crab and is still talking about the delicate, fresh, kitchen made pasta. She did mention it was just slightly on the salty side (for her), but she hardly e er uses salt,

I started with the sausage crostini, absolutely perfect with the soft cheese on top. I followed up with the pappardelle and wild boar ragu. It was the best I have eaten this trip. It was a very hot day so we ordered the house white frizzante wine and it hit the spot,

Although all desserts are housemade, the panna cotton was just a bit stiff for our liking. The fruit topping was delicious. We plan to return for a pizza dinner before we head home.

Give yourself time to wander the town and enjoy the views.

The restaurant opens quite early for italian standards at 7pm already.
We were the first ones, but soon more and more people came to have dinner there.
It is located in the beautiful small town Montepescali. From up there you have a wonderful view over the whole valley and can even see the ocean in the far distance.

We first had Bruschetta which tasted very fresh and was rich in tomatoes and basile.
We all didn't take a primi piatti, although their menu offers quite a range of different ones.
I had Tagliata (steak) with salad and parmiggiano. It was delicious and the portion perfect.
They fill their plates very nicely, which means you actually get quite a lot of food for your money.
One of us had a larger plate with a variety of grilled vegetables and cheeses. It looked very delicious and apparently also tasted amazing.

This restaurant was definitely worth the rather curvy way up the mountain.
After we had dinner, we walked through the cute and very narrow paths to explore the small village and watch the beautiful sunset.

We were driving from Cinque Terre to Roma and wanted a nice place to have lunch (not a roadside cafe). We saw this town on the top of the hill and decided to see if they had any restaurants. They had two and one was open :-) We had a wonderful lunch of various pastas and desserts. The table next to us had the typical Tuscan meal with tons of food and Tuscan steaks, it all looked good. If you want a "non-tourist" experience with good food, give this place a try. The food was amazing!!!
