“Paradise!”
Reviewed 9 September 2009

We stayed in apartment 254 in Port St Charles and had the best holiday of our lives. This apartment is on the second floor of the complex and looks over a small lagoon and then across to the sea. You could not ask for a more picturesque view to look at whilst sipping rum on the balcony(see attached photograph). The apartment had everything you needed and more. It was extremely clean, perfectly decorated and very hard to leave.

The Port St Charles complex itself also has all the facilites you need such as a gym, free taxi boat across the lagoon, fabulous restuarant, swimming pools, beds on a quiet beach, parking and extremely friendly staff.

I do not think I can do justice with words how amazing this place is so added some photos to prove it.

Whilst we were there we hired a car and toured the island and would highly recommend Ostins fish market on a friday night, the nature reserve, the west coast scenery and habour lights.

We stayed at Port St. Charles in May of this year and it was one of the most relaxing enjoyable holidays we have ever experienced.  We were in Appt.# 254 on the second floor which has magnificent views of the lagoon/marina and sea.  In our opinion it has the best view of all.As we walked into the apartment we could see the fantastic view through the patio doors leading to the balcony and I had to pinch myself as I thought I was dreaming.  The apartment was beautifully decorated, very spacious with every amenity and the most incredible balcony with loungers table and chairs.  A welcome pack was arranged for us so we poured oursleves a drink, relaxed on the balcony and watched a most magical sunset.  The beach is a few minutes walk from the apartment passing tennis courts and beautiful cultivated tropical gardens.  There was always someone on duty to set up loungers and umbrellas and they would carry them to whichever part of the beach you had chosen.  There is also a convenient swimming pool in the middle of the marina on the "Sunset Isle".  We went for early morning walks and a swim each day before returning to our apartment for breakfast on the balcony.  Another delight was that the shutters on the kitchen window opened out onto the balcony so you could see the view from the kitchen while preparing a meal.  We so enjoyed our apartment that it was a toss up as to whether we should go out to one of the many fabulous restaurants or sit on our candlelit balcony in the envening and enjoy our own cuisine.  We did have a couple of meals at the Yacht Club which were very good.  We also dined at the Lone Star and Fish Pot which are highly recommended.  A free water taxi was always available to take you back to your apartment from the Yacht Club or beach if you couldn't be bothered to walk the few minutes. We hired a car one day but on the whole were happy to stay at Port St. Charles, swim and sunbathe on the beach and enjoy the brilliant sunsets from our beautiful balcony.  The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.  I would certainly recommend Port St. Charles and, in particular, Apartment # 254.

I stayed at Port St Charles between 28th February and 6th March '09

You'll see from my other reviews that my boyfriend and I usually opt for a straightforward hotel type holiday so Port St Charles was a new one on me.

I would call it a semi-self catering set up. It was a mixture of home from home style living e.g. cooking, laundry facilities etc with some hotel style amenities e.g. housekeeper, chef (if required) etc

This type of living arrangement really worked well for our group that consisted of 3 couples, a 16 month old baby, 1 single girl and 3 single guys. Between us we had two 3 bedroom apartments

My boyfriend and I stayed in apartment 305, which is located on the outskirts of the resort, opposite the Yacht Club, top (3rd) floor on the beachfront.

The other apartment was located in the main part of the resort and was also beachfront (main beach). To get to the Yacht Club from here you would either walk or take the water taxi.

Apartment 305...

Our apartment was light and spacious throughout

As you walk into the hall you have the 2nd bedroom to your left and the 3rd bedroom to your right.

2nd bedroom - double with ensuite (shower over bath) with plenty of wardrobes.

3rd bedroom - twin with ensuite (shower over bath) with a small wardrobe.

At the end of the hall is the living room where you have the kitchen to the right and the master bedroom in the far left hand corner

Living Room - plenty of seating with a huge flat screen tv - two double doors leading out onto the balcony

Kitchen - fully equipped with cutlery, crockery, cooker, microwave, washing machine, tumble drier, dishwasher etc

Master Bedroom - we were sooooo lucky to have this room, the double bed is massive and the ensuite has a separate wet room plus a huge bath and walk in wardrobe plus there are double doors onto the balcony with a great day bed

Balcony - plenty of seating including a table and chairs to seat 8 people which was great for entertaining our large group and we spent several nights using the huge BBQ! You could also access the beach from here.
Two niggles: steps to beach were rather tricky and balcony railings were not very child friendly

Other stuff...

Yacht Club - serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, although I only tried breakfast and dinner - both offered great variety but service was very sloooow! highly recommend their fruit punch for brekkie

Gym - went a few times - usual equipment but no crosstrainer?!?! a little dated

Spa/Hairdressers - one of the girls went for a french manicure, I didn't ask about the experience but the results looked ok to me

Lone Star - we went to eat here one night and had a great time - great food and ambience

The Cliff - a fantastic restaurant - beautiful setting, good service and fab food

Bajan Blue @ Sandy Lane - we went for Sunday brunch here - food was good but way overpriced and I felt some of the residents were all rather miserable looking which I found very strange being as they were in paradise! after brunch we went onto a Polo game

For the girls...

Hairdriers - our apartment had plenty of hairdriers to go around - v.important because a UK hairdrier will not work as well in Barbados due to the fact that their voltage is lower than the UK's

Hair straighteners - same problem as hairdriers so if you can't live without your straighteners I strongly suggest you invest in some GHD's mark v - these have dual voltage which means they'll work in any country despite their voltage.

All in all I can't wait to go back. Whether it be to stay at Port St Charles again or to try another place - I quite fancy The Sandpiper!

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy

My husband and I stopped here for the last 2 weeks in November. We had a superb holiday. We were met at the airport and felt like royalty when we didn't have to queue to get through immigration, we were whisked straight though and in to our taxi.

The apartment is beautiful, exactly as the pictures show. We rented it directly from the owner on the holiday-rentals.co.uk site. We had daily maid service and ample clean beach towels and bath towels each day. The apartment has everything you could wish for to make your stay comfortable, it is very spacious and airy. We thouroughly enjoyed eating out on the balcony enjoying the view of the marina.

I was very impressed by the helpfulness of the owner and the e-mails we received from PSC prior to our stay. When we arrived we had a welcome pack and also the extra groceries we had requested. PSC would shop for you if you gave them a list of what you required, we found this very handy for the first few days before we got a jeep.

The yacht club is very nice to eat at, we had several good meals there and would also often go for a drink. The prices were very reasonable too. The beach was gorgeous, we would ring up to request beach chairs at the far end of the beach. The snorkelling was excellent, I would recommend bringing snorkel equipment with you, we swam out to the reef most days and there was an abundance of beautiful fish, lovely!

I would highly recommend the apartment and PSC, we will definitely be back!

  • Liked — It was a beautiful apartment within close proximity to a very nice beach
  • Disliked — Nothing, would recommend hiring a car though as it is a little isolated

Stayed at Port St Charles for 8 days in a one bedroom apartment. Loved the deck with our own pool, plenty of chairs and plenty of space. Spent many hours there just relaxing and looking at the view. Quite a quiet time of year which meant the pool bar was not open which was a bit disappointing especially as the restaurant La Mer has also closed. However the food and atmosphere at the Yacht Club made up for that. Wonderful staff at the Yacht Club and at reception - nothing too much trouble. The Welcome Pack of food was very welcome. Decided to eat out each night (next time we will have a cook for some meals) it was quite expensive but hey you're on holiday. Went to Fish Pot, Lone Star, Angry Annies, Mango by the Sea and The Mews. Mews was our favourite - Mango our least but really there was not a huge amount of difference between them all. Would have no hesitation in going back - hopefully there will be more boating action as my husband was hoping for a sail on one! Made friends with Terry the ~Turtle - so lovely to see these creatures in their natural surroundings rather than being fed by humans at sea. Went on Silver Moon catamaran for the day - great fun. Rented a car for a few days which enabled us to see the East Coast. Loved the caves at the north of the island.
