Stayed here for a week with my partner and we were pleasantly surprised by the hotel and the room for the little amount we had paid.
The room was spacious, the bed was insanely comfortable, we were provided with water everyday as well as coffee, sugar and clean towels.

I can see why this is budget and only 3 1/2 stars.
- Upon arrival into our room it was littered with mosquitoes which we later realised is because the housekeeping team clean the rooms with the front door wide open!
- The toilet and sink were really badly stained and it was a bit nasty to look at. A big bottle of bleach would sort it right out
- The pool has green tiles so the water looked green, or so we thought. Our second to last day the water was absolutely crystal clear and I could not believe we had been swimming in GREEN WATER for 5 days! It seemed that there was maybe a filter or plumbing issue because we saw staff fiddling around with pipes
- The menu is very vast and a little hard to read because there is so much to choose from, but what we did choose was delicious
- The restaurant staff were the most miserable people I’ve ever seen. They were all (apart from the lady with the high bun in her hair) more focused on their phones or giving filthy looks to customers. We actually complained about this to Sheila and noticed a difference in their attitude the very next morning
- The breakfast is very limited, in terms of its predominately Thai food. Which isn’t a problem but I don’t feel like westerners were catered for very well. As someone who enjoys eggs, bacon or pancakes for breakfast I didn’t really fancy red curry or garlic potatoes
- The fan in our room made an unruly clatter when it was turned on
- The walls are a bit grubby and could do with a lick of paint

Aside from this, Shiela and Job are really friendly people and this is definitely the place to go if you want an upmarket budget hotel!

Hotel is good quality for the money the rooms are fine but they really need an update.

Location is way too far from everywhere although you can get around on the pick ups.

The only detractor was the price of beer which was double any local place but at the money it could be forgiven.

Staff are very helpful

We stayed at the Maryoo in December 2017 and were welcomed by Sheila and Job, both incredibly accommodating, friendly and helpful. The rooms are a little dated and just need a good scrub but for the price was good. In order to get around, you will need a scooter but the hotel can organize it for you and it will get dropped off right at the hotel for 250 baht.

Recently stayed at the MarYoo hotel on Koh Samui. For the benefit of English speaking people they pronounce it Mar Yoo not Mary Oo (this will help when trying to get a taxi back)
On arrival the staff were very welcoming especially Job. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He helped us with taxis and renting a motorcycle.

The hotel and room it’s self was a little disappointing. Very dated and tired and as we would say “grubby”. Don’t get me wrong the grounds were tidy and as were the rooms but they just wasn’t clean. The sink, shower area and the toilets were stained. They all needed a few bottles of bleach throwing round them and a good scrub. I even found hairs (I’m hoping shaved facial hair) from previous guests in the corner of the shower. Mirrors had finger and hand prints on them.
Walking to the room the windows on the staircase had seen better day. Frames were wooden and broken some with holes on them.
The room was huge and we felt had so much potential it was purely the cleanliness that let it down.
We had another booking after a short trip to another island however decided to cancel and book another hotel.
Location wise it was out of the way. Around 250bht to Chaweng in a taxi if booked through the hotel and 400 to return. We decided to rent a motorcycle as it was much cheaper.
We didn’t use the restaurant apparently from for breakfast. This was nice and booked fresh for you.

As soon as we arrived at the Maryoo we were welcomed by Job & Sheila who spoke very good English they were very friendly & welcoming & helpful.
Our rooms were lovely everything we needed with plenty of space & nice views, the rooms were cleaned every day with fresh towels & bottles of water provided. The meals at the restaurant were cooked from fresh by the very lovely Bea both Thai & western food which fed my pretty fussy family very well thank you Bea!!!
The children used the pool a lot especially after a day of trips, beach or markets & we hired taxi's & mopeds through the hotel at very reasonable prices.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Maryoo & would definitely recommend it we are a family of 7 but also other family members stayed there as well, the staff were excellent & great with our children. The location is not ideal but not a problem to get anywhere & local beach at choeng mon bay was our favourite beach.

Room tip: great views from ocean view rooms
