When we arrived there was a polite notice on the door explaining how to get to our room as we arrived around 1130pm. One of the locals even explained how to get there to as she saw we were unsure of which door to enter.

The room was clean/ tidy and had everything you needed. A welcome letter was on the table along with air conditioning remote, WiFi password and a bottle of water.

The next day, we went down for breakfast as we'd opted for the bed / breakfast option, and was greeted by the reception asking if we was okay!
Breakfast was basic with a good selection with different pastries every day.

We asked the reception for recommendations of what to do... He showed us a free app to download with a map of Crete which was great. He told us about the winery down the road, what buses to get to rethyemo, the local pottery village, the museum on top of the mountain as well as bus times, bus stops, where to get the tickets from etc. We visited them all!. Also he advised us to go to the top of the mountain, where the light house is, to watch the sun set! Which again, was a great choice.

We went on three trips, booked through bali travel, whilst we were there.
"Cretan Night" - unlimited food, wine, raki and dancing!
"Imbrose gorge" - a 5 mile hike through a gorge then time at a lovey beach.
"Quad biking" - through traditional villages of crete !
We loved them all and were a great price.

The pool, at the hotel, is a decent size with plenty of sunbeds. Loved how they brought Ice pops round for everyone whilst you were chilling round the pool!

Coming home our flight was at 8.45pm and check out of the hotel is at 11am - we asked if we could leave our bags behind reception whilst we enjoyed our last day, he to!d us not to worry and check out that evening!! Usually you have to pay for this so it was great he offered us this for free!!!

Pamormo itself is a lovely quiet village with restraunts, bars, supermarkets, beaches and everything you can ask for. It is quiet but perfect for a couple/ family holiday.

Definitely recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for a week at the beginning of August, my husband, myself and our one year old. We hired a car and had free parking all week, arrived around 11pm but found a very noticeable note on the door with directions to our room which had the key in the door. Stayed in a studio apartment which had a lovely little balcony and small kitchenette - do not expect to do much cooking as was just a 2 point hob but great to have a fridge etc for breakfasts/snacks and pans etc are all in cupboards.

Andreas the owner could not do enough for us during our stay - he knocked on the door the day after arrival to check all ok, helped us with directions and general advice whenever neeeed as did the friendly lady on reception. Unfortunately our son was unwell for the beginning of our trip and Andreas was very helpful answering the phone out of hours, directing to a medical center and coming to check if he was ok several times.

Panormos itself is a really beautiful place to visit the real Greece - there are several tavernas that all serve fantastic food at reasonable prices, a beautiful beach and plenty to do including scuba diving, day trips, jet skis etc. supermarket down the road too - we visited the Crete aquarium too for a day out of the heat which was about an hour away and a really lovely day out with a great restaurant attached.

Pool area is very clean and gets lots of sun but also areas of shade too. Air con was free and very much needed but did play up on the final night and reception had closed so didn't get a great nights sleep but no problem the rest of the week. You will not be disappointed here.

Me and my boyfriend stayed a week here in August for around 450 EUR. The place was lovely! We had breakfast included in our stay. Breakfast was simple and changed a bit every day, bringing a bit of variety to it.

We had a room on the upper floor with a balcony from where we had a view of the city of Panormos.

The pool is semi small, but very clean and beautiful. In the pool area, there were a lot of sun chairs, so we had a decent chance of always getting a chair whenever we went to the pool.

The staff was very friendly and was always ready to help with ideas of what to see in the nearby area (we e.g. went to the Klados winery less than 10 km away from the city).

All in all, the hotel is definitely worth a visit!

They have the warmest of recommendation from me.

Recently returned from a stay at Hotel Iliana.

First off, let me say how wonderful the village of Panormos is. Away from the main tourist haunts lies a place where you can happily escape from the world, with lovely beaches, beautiful sunsets, great places to eat (especially Post Office Pleasures) and a rustic charm you don’t often find on holiday.

Unfortunately, the experience of our stay at the Hotel Iliana was not quite as positive.

Upon arrival, as it was outwith the 08:00 – 18:00 opening hours of the hotel reception, the front door was locked. Luckily, as around 10 days before travelling we contacted the hotel to request that we be given a room with a double bed rather than a twin beds, we were informed in advance that for guests arriving late that they leave a note on the reception door with directions how to find the room, as we met a couple one night later in the week frantically phoning home for help as they had arrived to find the place in darkness and had not seen the notice in the dark.

As we entered Apartment Four at around 23:30 local time, we were hit with an unbelievable wall of heat due to the air conditioning unit being turned off, and despite our previous request for a double bed we had been allocated a room with two single beds. We tried opening the bathroom and kitchen windows for some ventilation, but as these opened out into the main thoroughfare for the other rooms, we were wary about doing so but had no other choice.

We were even further disappointed when we went out onto the balcony for a while and were shocked to discover that the balcony was shared with the residents of Apartment Three, the prospect of shared balconies was never mentioned in the room descriptions and if it had been it would have certainly made us look at other accommodation options.

The next morning, after a less than comfortable sleep due to the heat, I went down to reception to formally check in, pay for the safe key and see about the faulty air-conditioning unit. I also asked about moving to a room with a double bed, but was told that as they were fully booked they could not accommodate my request. I then asked about keeping the room on a little later when we checked out as we were not due to be picked up until 16:00, but was told to come back later in the week for them to check availability.

I then asked about the air-conditioning and was told that it was not actually faulty, but rather it is an undisclosed optional extra and subject to a €5 per day surcharge, so after begrudgingly agreeing to pay €30 for the AC remote control and €9 for the safe key, which was forewarned.

As we settled into our twin-bedded room, we noticed that despite promising a “fully-equipped kitchen” our room only had a fridge, kettle and twin electric hob, and that the room phone was also missing.

On Monday, I went back to reception to see about keeping the room on but was once again told that they were fully booked and we would have to vacate the room by 10am, but could leave our bags in the reception office

Our last day was mostly spent sitting in the reception waiting for our transfer to arrive, we were more than a little annoyed that the only other guests we saw checking out all did so around noon, and that those checking in were all families and the key for our room along with several others were sitting in the pigeon-holes meaning that at the very least we could have kept the room on for at least a few more hours after 10:00. I have since checked the Iliana’s listing on other sites, including their own, to see if there is mention of chargeable AC and shared balconies for which I cannot see anything, but was surprised to see on Expedia and Booking.com that the check-out time is 11:00 and noon respectively, which suggests that they operate differing policies depending on where the reservation is made.

Have also been surprised to see in other reviews that the AC was free, so perhaps it depends on who is on the front desk when you check-in if it is chargeable or not?

The hotel itself is by no means terrible, it is just such a shame that we were so disappointed in the quality of the room and how far removed it was from the advertised features listed when we booked.

Room Tip: Room 4 shares Room 3's balcony Expect requests to be ignored Check reception door if arriving late Query being asked for €5 a day for AirCon

Dear guests,

Thank you for choosing Iliana hotel for your holidays, and we appreciate your feedback. It is greatly valued, as it is giving us the chance to improve our service for our guests. We are really glad you liked the village and enjoyed your time in Panormo.

Regarding the extra charge for the safe box and air-conditioning, we would like to point out that some tour operators prefer not to include these in their room rates, in order to achieve more competitive prices for their clients. We are sorry if that was not made completely clear by your tour operator, in which case we would suggest consulting them in order to clarify the matter.

Concerning the double bed, unfortunately, not all our rooms come with a double bed. We try to cater for our guests' needs, however this is not always possible, especially when we are fully booked, as it was during the time you visited.

Our kitchens have a hob in studios or mini oven and hob in one-bedroom apartments, where there is more space. There is also a mini fridge, kettle and toaster (in some rooms). All rooms have a frying pan, small and large pans, plates, crockery, small and large glasses, coffee cups, things most of our guests consider enough to prepare a light meal in their room.

Regarding the shared balcony, a couple of rooms do have a shared balcony, some have a terrace overlooking the pool area and others have a private balcony. We do not consider our description misleading, we are sorry if you feel this way.

Our check-out time is 11 am, we never ask guests to vacate their rooms earlier. Although we do try to leave guests in their rooms for longer, when they ask for a late check-out, this is not always possible, as our cleaning staff needs to have enough time to prepare the room for the next guests.

Please also note that your requests were not in any case ignored, however they could not be satisfied due to the hotel being full during your stay.

We always try to make our guests stay as comfortable as possible, we are sorry for not being up to your standards.

We spent a lovely two weeks at the Iliana.

Booking for easy and even before we arrived, Eleftheria was really helpful, including in helping us to arrange our airport transfers.

When we arrived, we were given a lovely refreshing glass of lemonade and biscuits and, although our room wasn't ready (which we expected, as we were on an early flight), Eleftheria and Andreas offered us use of a room to get changed and towels to use the pool. We decided to go out for lunch but appreciated the offer.

We had room 30 and it was perfect for the three of us. It had two balconies, one overlooking the (sometimes busy) pool area, which got partial sun most of the day, and one at the quieter back of the building, which was cool and shady for much of the day.

We had two twins pushed together to form a large double, and there was a proper sofa bed in the kitchen area for our daughter. There was a slight fault with our air con (that Andreas explained how to work around) so we had our daughter in the large double with us, which was fine.

The apartment was just as I expect a self-catering apartment to be. Clean, perfectly equipped for our requirements, and a shower tray and shower curtain in the bathroom was a luxury!

All the staff we met were lovely and couldn't do enough for us.

The pool is in the middle of a suntrap courtyard and even in the height of the holiday season, you could normally get sunloungers and sometimes even had it to yourself.

The location was perfect. A very short walk to the lovely sandy beach, and all tavernas were within a few minutes walk. There is a good supermarket just down the street, including an ATM.

We would definitely recommend the Iliana to people looking to stay in Panormos.

Thank you, Eleftheria and Andreas, for our stay and the warm welcome you gave us.
