Holidaying in Crete we were looking to find somewhere near to Bali for a couple of nights. A search of Trip Advisor led us to the Filion Suites and we were not disappointed!

Lovely complex of apartments in the hills above Bali with very good facilities including restaurant, games room spa, outdoor pools with lounging and bar. There is also a mini-market for self catering although we did not use it.

Breakfast was included within the cost which was exceptional value at the time we stayed. the breakfast was both varied and plentiful and was taken in the dining room which had views down to the sea beyond.

The room was modern neat and tidy with all the facilities you would expect. Beds were comfortable and the room had a small balcony overlooking the resort and beyond.

The resort also runs a free mini-bus down into Bali itself where you can enjoy the beaches and bars.

There is free wi-fi in the bar and reception areas but needs to be paid for in the rooms. We used the free wi-fi.

Staff were exceptionally polite and the whole stay was fabulous. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Room Tip: If you can get/afford one of the self-contained apartments with its own pool then do so!!

Our room was supposed to be a superior room, but it had no view except of the doors of other rooms. It was dirty especially in the bathroom and the mattress was thin and very hard. We asked to move and had a better room which was much cleaner but the air con didn't work properly.
The food was varied and of good quality and staff friendly. The restaurant was lovely and the best part of the holiday.
The swimming pools were dirty and there were tiles missing especially in the baby pools.
We wanted to go to Santorini for the day and wanted the high speed boat which took 2 hours. The hotel said they could book it for us and our 2 friends do we paid 150€ each. We were taken down to Bali to catch the coach to Heraklion and were told we had tickets for the ferry which took three and a half hours! We had a coach from the port of Santorini which took us to the main towns for two and a half hours in total and then back to the ship. We travelled by ship and coach for a total of 9 hours for such a short time especially as we were told we would have 5 hours in Santorini. The next morning saw the manager and he gave us 50 € for each couple which was their commission. We also hired a car from the hotel for 2 days costing 100€. When we saw the car it was old and had 170,000 km on the clock, it was dirty , one seat belt was broken and the rear seats moved when we stopped. We kept the car for the 2 days and complained to the hotel saying it was dangerous and shouldn't be hired. We had no apology from the hotel. We thought both the trip to Santorini and the car hire were a con and a waste of money!

A good hotel with spacious clean rooms and stunning views. However, the food was good but very samey, the hotel operates a reciprocal arrangement with a taverna down in Bali - you can two vouchers per week to eat down there for free. Unfortunately we had to learn from another guest and only had chance to use it one time. The taverna food was delicious and the wine much cheaper!
The complimentary shuttle service was a godsend as the village was three miles plus from the hotel and uphill all the way back! In the evening use of the shuttle bus was chargeable.
It was a comfortable place to stay and had lovely pools and spa but the location was limiting for us.
Also the internet was free in the reception area but charged in the room - an irritation!
Bali Travel in the village, run good tours to elsewhere on the island - worth a look.

Room Tip: i think all the rooms had lovely views. Our room was on the second floor and was ideal.

When we arrived at the hotel late at night we received very warm welcome from Georgia who sorted our room very quickly and told us to go and eat in the restaurant as food had been made available then we were shown to our room which was clean, roomy with a fabulous view.

We had 10 days at the hotel and enjoyed every minute there as it was total relaxation, they had three pools that you could use with plenty of sunbeds and parasols around which were on different levels so you were always able to get a bed.
The bar pool was excellent as you could buy your lunch there and the food portions were very large so beware of that when ordering. The bar is open all day and closes late in to the evening and they also have an happy hour from 4.30pm to 6pm.
The drinks prices are pretty expensive to stay out for the evening so most people disappear back to their rooms.
The bar staff work extremely hard with always a smile on their face, especially Maria she's wonderful.

Every evening they had some entertainment starting at 9pm till 11pm which was pleasant to watch whilst having a drink.

The restaurant food is extremely good both for breakfast and for evening meal, plenty of choice for starters and each night you could either have fish or different types of meat such as chicken, port, beef, lamb with a choice of rice, vegetable's, potatoes or chips. The desserts were also plentiful, lots of mousse type pots, cake, ice cream and fruits, you couldn't fault any of it.

The spa we didn't use but it's there if you want to take advantage of any treatments which I believe were pretty good.

The shuttle bus operates into Bali was a super service operating during the day but if you wish to go down in the evening then it's 7 euros each way in a taxi, it's also not a big town but if you like a walk after dinner then you have the option to do this. You can also have a meal at the Mythos taverna in place of your evening meal at the hotel so that is worth doing as the food was also good there.

If you enjoy a holiday with more walking and you don't have a car then this is not the hotel for you but if you do have a car then you can easily travel round the island as lots to see and do.

We found the wifi fine as we didn't pay for it but was still able to access it when in our room or round the pool.

I would definately go again as we totally enjoyed having a chilled holiday.

Room Tip: Not under the restaurant

Nearly the perfect location if you wish to explore the island by rental car as the location is very central. There are not many things that i can complain about but to receive a 5* you should have nothing to complain about.

The Hotel room which we were given on the first day was very disappointing (No 825). We were overlooking a large flat concrete roof and a solar powered water heater was directly inline with the mountain views, We didn't receive the complementary fruit and creten wine and we were kept up all night by the sound of the swimming pool. filter. In the morning i complained and we were moved to another room that day.

I was a bit annoyed with the WIFI. They will charge you a fee per device for the duration of the stay. You can get free WIFI at the pool bar (very slow) and at the reception.

on a positive note the food (B'fast and dinner) was very nice.

Be aware of the dress code. i once wore a smart long pair of shorts and was told to change, on my return i spotted at least 5 other Men in shorts and nothing was said to them. This was a little irritating as you feel as if you've been singled out.

Apart from those small issues i had a very nice and relaxing time.
