One of our favourite beaches on the Algarve, large, easy parking, love the spring high tide, which creates warm lagoons at the top of the beach...water tends to be cold, as it is way out west, friendly lifeguards, sun umbrellas and beds available at 10 Euros a day for 2 people. Even toilets at the back of the beach.

Although the beach at Salema was gorgeous, the cold water and incessant winds make it impossible for me to recommend it as a destination.

Positives:
+ picturesque waters & powdery sand
+ available parking
+ the smaller village made for a less crowded beach

Negatives
- sandblasting from the strong wind (my towel was covered & ears were filled with sand within a few hours)
- freezing cold water (although that is expected in the Algarve)
- incessant strong wind

If you want to enjoy this beach you will need to invest in a wind/sand barricade like the locals do. Although Lagos is touristy the beach at Mos is more pleasant & easy to access.

Salema beach and village sublime, Corsarios snack bar has by far the best, buzziest and cheapest food and drink. Best sangria, best peri-peri, best prawns, best hosts. You can't miss it, it has more patrons than anyone else

Whilst there has been some low level non-apartment development behind this fishing village, the village itself is excellently unspoilt, as is its relatively exclusive uncrowded beach. It has almost on beach parking for a limited number of cars and further parking nearby. There are a small number of very good to excellent restaurants and a couple of intimate bars. Salema borders the National Maritime Park which thereafter extends to Cape St Vincent, the furthest place West in Europe, 25 minutes drive away.
