Painstakingly and lovingly renovated in a historical mansion. This hotel is real work of art and one of the best places in the Huangshan area that offers high quality accommodation and faultless service.
Apparently the main investor is a longtime cinematographer of Zhang Yimou and there is a real “old Shanghai” crossed with movie buff tone to the decor. There is even a wall size projector in the main lounge where guests can enjoy and request nightly showings. That said, the service is all local and top notch from excellent food (rotating, seasonal) to the tailored recommendations for exploring the nearby area.
It is also located in Pingshan which is still considered “off the hidden trail” and is thankfully not as commercialized and chaotic as the nearby Hongcun and Xidi villages. Lots of art students during the day working on their Hui architecture portfolios. Very peaceful with none of the loud karaoke or crowds you find in other places. Close to nearby attractions, eg biking distance to Hongcun, a short ride to Xidi / Nanping and a longer but still manageable one hour ride to Huangshan and the train station/ airport.
Really a hidden gem and comes highly recommended. More
