Owner description: This great little award-winning and family-friendly Museum contains two fun and fact-packed biographical galleries, the fantabulous interactive Story Centre and a sunny courtyard. Situated in Great Missenden where Roald Dahl lived for over 36 years, it was created as a home for the author’s archive (which visitors can see on our regular tours) and as a place to inspire creativity and a love of reading in children, about which Roald Dahl was passionate.

The museum offered up a perfect slice of nostalgia (for me) and it was great to see the kids enjoying all the interactive activities. the setting is also charming, so although the museum doesn't take long to make your way around, there's a lovely village (and a couple of quaint pubs) to have a potter around afterwards.

We arrived with an open mind and a love of the stories. The staff were only really interested in selling the ticket. You are given it and then shown the door into the first room. The first room you enter basic to say the least and disjointed, but if we had a guide full of enthusiasm it could be made magic for kids. But we did not and none were offered. We were left to find our own way round. We saw Roald's flying goggles and a video of him flying a plane. The next large room was primarily built around Roald's writing chair. Then you are back into the courtyard pas the school trip dining area and on you way out. A very sad commercial memorial to a great story teller who fired children's imagination, but obviously not the museum creators.
In conclusion, even on wet day, move on unless you are under 10years old and someone else is paying.

Very disappointed with the place. Web site very misleading. Nothing to see and do. The things that are there have nothing to do with the books he wrote. Waste of money, only took 20 minutes to see everything.
