“Quite Location - perfect for touring the countryside”
Reviewed 20 June 2013

We stayed at the Ballykine House for 1 night on our last night touring Ireland. It is a very quiet location in between Cong and Clonbur. It is perfect for that peaceful country setting that will relax you as soon as you step out of the car. Ann was a great host and very understandable when we had to cancel our first night due to a circumstance that was not allowing us to arrive when we were supposed to. She also was accommodating to our needs in the morning and changing her breakfast time for us so we were able to eat breakfast and make it in time to return our car to the rental facility. Ann was great upon our arrival showing us around and giving us directions to all the local sights and walking trails. She also recommended a couple of restaurants in Clonbur for dinner and it was a nice/peaceful walk from the B&B to the restaurant via a trail. The restaurant that she recommended, Eddie's Bar, ended up being our favorite meal while in Ireland. The rooms and en suite was very comfortable and clean during our stay. The house was very picturesque and exactly what we needed during our trip to Clonbur/Cong and would recommend to anyone.

you will be glad you did. This is a beautiful B&B. Ann the hostess warmly greeted us. We were shown our room and within minutes we were having tea. Beautiful surroundings, we went for a walk on a path in the woods and a pine marten darted in front of us. Ann suggested a few restaurants to eat and we were glad we followed her advice. Ann pays great attention to detail and it shows. Irish breakfast was delicious and plentiful. If you plan on visiting this part of Ireland you will be glad you stayed here. Tom Cummings

Beautifully furnished rooms in old lodge, set in the countryside with mountain views. Spacious room with sitting area and small modern ensuite. Very welcoming hostess. Fantastic breakfast. Can walk from lodge through woods to Lough Mask. Short drive to Clonbur, with several pubs to choose from for dinner.

What an amazing place! Set in acres of countryside between Cong and Clonbur is an imposing stone house. It's old-fashioned in a good sense. It's filled with antique this and that, like being in a grand country house; shades of Downton Abbey or something! Our room was palatial, with an enormous bed with about half a dozen pillows each and the most beautiful brocade bedspread. The bathroom was modern and sparkling clean with a lovely shower. What a genuine, warm person Ann the owner is. She made us feel right at home and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfasts were lavish with Ann always pressing us to have a little more - true Irish hospitality!

I've stayed in many B&Bs and I must say, Ballykine is certainly one of the finest. Part of what used to be the Guiness family's estate, the house itself once belonged to the gamekeeper. Ann Lamb, the hostess, was actually born there and her love of the place is evident in every detail. She and her husband are a delightful couple and Ann is a superb cook. The place is merely an hour's beautiful drive north of Galway City, in between two tiny, traditional villages: Cong and Clonbur. For more info, see my blog: http://goodoldtimestoday.blog.com/
