We have always liked Walton but absolutely love it out of season. Today was lovely with a walk along the cliffs at the Naze and then down to the main beach and a walk on the pier. From the Naze you can see Harwich one way and the brilliant sight of the windfarm out at sea the other.

If your idea of a great beach is one with lots of 'bits' to explore then Walton is just wonderful. Take your wellies and enjoy. There are steep steps near the Naze Tower (has a lovely cafe plus another cafe nearby) down and lots to see. Check out the new amazing coastal defences, look for fossiled shark teeth...pillboxes out to see to explore. Lots of little rockpools and the waves can be very wild. It can be windy so take layers. Lots of picnic tables on the top of the cliffs as well.

I used to visit Walton on the naze as a child and it has obviously changed a fair amount but in essence remains the same.
A large stretch of beach, perfect for a family day out playing on the beach. It has one of the longest piers in the uk which is worth a walk along. The pier houses an amusement arcade and fair ground rides.
At the opposite end of Walton is the naze itself a vast contrast to the pier/town end. A nature reserve and naze tower itself.
The town is a little tired but who goes for a visit to the seaside for the town?

A really lovely sandy beach, when the tide is out there is so much space for the kids to enjoy. We had a lovely day and spent about 6 hours on the Beach. Not loads of shops but all you need for a fun day out at the seaside.
