This is not a fancy hotel, and it's not that easy to get to. And that's what makes it so great. We trudged up the hill in a blizzard, dragging our bags up the several flights of stairs until we found the place. Only two other guests. We had a delicious dinner prepared by Walter, the owner, in the dining room with the other guests and some local people. It was a wonderful evening. The room has linoleum floors, wooden walls, a tile sink and a utility sink, and a little space heater. The beds were big and soft. There was a balcony outside facing the neighbor's goats. The surroundings are so beautiful and unspoiled, this is the perfect way to enjoy them.

This is a wonderful little hotel, run by the most convivial Walter. He is humourous and a delight. Whilst the rooms are above basic, they are clean, warm, and offer fantastic views. The sounds of farm animals as the sun sets, is particularly delightful (my wife drifted off to sleep listening to the bleats and the bells around their necks).
I was here in Gimmelwald 20 years ago, and. Must that Walter and his establishment have not changed...thank goodness. If you stay, make sure you try his Heidi Coco....hot chocolate with a shot of peppermint schnapps...a mjs on those crisp evenings.

Room Tip: Book early and make sure you confirm the day befo.

I love this place. Been to Gimmelwald before but never stayed overnight. We were the only ones in the hotel, and it snowed all night. What a great creaky old piece of Gimmelwald history. Walter is fantastic, and ready to help where he can. Breakfast was modest, but the view out the windows made me forget I was even eating. Beds were soft and we curled up in our mountain nest for a great night. Never tried the showers which are 1 CHF per 5 minutes, and the heaters are on timers. Still warm and cozy.

My husband and I loved our visit to Gimmelwald. We had a comfortable stay at hotel Mittaghorn. The floors are creaky and any movement will create a sound. You also have to pay for hot water. Both things just added to the charm of staying in this hotel. We loved the view from our balcony. Tim was also very helpful in helping us plan our daily activities. We also stayed for two dinner, which was worth the price.

Here's our review of hotel Mittaghorn and what we did during our stay there.

The good stuff : Hotel Mittaghorn has fabulous views and great hosts who try to meet your needs.

The not so good stuff : if you are not used to staying in houses made of wood, you will the creaky noises quite disturbing. The hotel is a 10-15 mins uphill walk from the cable station which can be difficult if you are carrying heavy luggage. The breakfast is very limited. Also, you pay for taking a bath.
