“Only two hours' walk will take you to the Summit of Asahidake, Top of Hokkaido.”

You do not have to be a serious climber. From the station of the cablecar, it takes only two hours to the summit. You should go there between June and September, as it would be too cold or the cable cars are not running. Try to go there when the weaher is good. When it is fine the view is splendid. When it is fine, it is fairly easy to get to the summit, but I would recomend you to wear shoes suitable for trekking.

“Nice spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 October 2005

I went here on October 12, 2005. I took the bus (#66) from Asahigawa. (There are 4 a day from April 'till October 15, then 2 a day for the rest of the year). It took and hour and cost Y1000 ($10). The bus dropped me right in front of the cable car station. The round trip was Y1800 ($18). It was a short wait till I got on the cable car to the mid-point of the mountain. I spent a nice hour hiking around, taking pictures. It is also possible to weither climb to the top (1.5 hours up, 1 hour down), or to take a hike from here over a pass to the next road (about 7 hours). Both would be excellent.

As for accomodations in this area, there are only about 5 places to stay at Asahiddake-onsen (1 is a youth hostel). They would all be excellent. The area is quiet and beautiful.
