Located right next to the National Onuma Park, this hotel is a gem inside a forest. The hotel itself is excellent but since Onuma itself is a very remote place, there is not much to offer in the city. We were stuck that evening after we checked in at the hotel at 6:30pm, and we were told that the Main Dining Hall was full (the only dinner venue), there was no room service provided by the hotel, and most restaurants near the JR stations call for last order at 7:30pm!!!

We finally had to get on a taxi immediately and headed for a restaurant that did not close so early. Finally, we found a Italian home cooking restaurant. It's very nice in the middle of nowhere. We ended up paying for JPY22,000 for that dinner for our family of four.

The breakfast offers a great variety of choice although tastes was not exceptionally great. View was superb but we felt like eating in a school cafeteria. The room is relatively small, but clean and tidy. The hot spring is very good, with a view at night that lighted up some trees.

The National Onuma Park is a nice stroll after breakfast in the morning. Early July is a great timing. It's sunny and not hot, around 25C. We would have loved to stay one more night there to explore of the place.

Anyone who plan to stay in this hotel, be sure to reserve the dinner in advance!

The surroundings of the hotel in Onuma Koen Quasi national park are lovely. The outdoor onsen is also nice although can get very busy - we attended once in the evening at 1030pm (quite busy) and once first thing in the morning (5am) when no one was there and it was perfect. The convenience store in the hotel was useful. They had a bakery also but it wasn't open when we stayed.

We stayed for 2 nights and seemed to be the only non-Japanese staying. There was very limited information in English about anything (which seemed strange for a hotel that advertises on booking.com) - very minimal information given about meals, facilities, how to connect to the internet etc. - we had to ask specifically. The front desk staff were not particularly helpful although one female trainee working there was excellent. They didn't even have local maps in English (only Japanese) even though these are abundant and free in the tourist information centre so could easily be stocked by the hotel.

The view from our room was onto the forest/car park - there are nicer views on the opposite side of the hotel that looks toward the mountain - most rooms are on this side but try to request if you can.

If you want to eat in the hotel restaurant (there is nothing else in walking distance) you need to pre-book. We tried to make a dinner reservation on the day of arrival for the following day but were told the restaurant was full. There is also a buffet restaurant (no need to book) but we decided to eat out instead. We also tried to reserve bicycles for the following day but were told we had to come to the front dest at 6am! We did this (and then went back to bed for a couple of hours) but it was really quite annoying and unnecessary as they actually had a lot of bikes.

Our booking information mentioned a once daily shuttle bus from OnumaKoen or Hakodate station - the time didn't correlate at all with the arrival times of our train from Sapporo so we took a taxi. If you arrive in the day time its easy to take a taxi from Onuma Koen Station (around 1000-1500yen), in the evening might be more difficult, though you could call the hotel to arrange one (not sure how easy if non-Japanese speaker). However, the shuttle bus is actually more frequent than this but not well advertised.

We checked into a room overseeing the forest and this is so beautiful in the morning. We took an early morning walk to the pond and discovered there are many holiday houses around the corner. As we walked past the pinewood houses they smelled good. I recommend guests to go for a stroll.

The hotel has 2 small male and female onsen and it is not so crowded since it opens 24 hours. The open door onsen is facing the pond.

Morning breakfast is an eye opener for us since it offers many variety of local food and western breakfast in a function room. You must try the local breakfast for the experience.

If there is a chance we will like to revisit the hotel to explore the area in different season.

Close to Onuma Park, this is a lovely hotel. Wonderful grounds for walking, a great golf course, and very friendly service. The buffet dinner and breakfast was amazing, with the dinner buffet being only 5,000 yen for all you could eat & drink.

This hotel is located in a beautiful area and has great views of the forest and lake. However, I think this hotel is geared toward older people on bus tours. It is an older building and the decor is a bit dated. The rooms are a nice size but many lack any internet connection so be sure to ask for a room with internet if you intend on using a computer at all.

The restaurant staff were rather rude, the first time I have not had good service in Japan. The food is also overpriced and not particularly good but there are no alternatives anywhere nearby unless you have a car. Overall an ok place but my least favorite so far on this trip.

Room tip: Higher floors have internet access. There are also smoking rooms at this hotel so if you dislike the stale cigarette smell be sure to ask for a non-smoking room.
