“We'd definitely go back.”
Reviewed 25 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Having just returned from our holiday at No 1 Mikonos Playa in Duquesa, we thought we'd write a review... well the place exceeded our expectations, the terrace is huge and lovely, in the apartment you have everything you'd want, including cd's, games, a well equipped kitchen and even a good selection of books.

Its also a great base to explore from, we went to Gibralter and even had a day trip to Morocco, which can be seen on a clear day from Duquesa.

“fairly nice apartment - great terrace”

The best thing about this apartment is definitely the terrace. Its huge, has sea views and gets the sun all day. The apartment itself is perfectly adequate and is clean, presentable and has what you need but I would stop short at labelling it luxurious. The furnishings and fittings are what you would expect of a bog standard rental apartment, the bathrooms are the exception as these do have a more luxurious feel and are fully tiled
The apartment block itself is well kept and the pool area is attractive. There is a road and a car park between the apartment and the beach but you are only a few metres away
The beach is big but the sand is grey and coarse. The apartment is right next to the marina which is pretty and if you like pubs, karoke, and lots of English people then you will love it. There are a lot of restaurants of differing quality but they are all expensive due to the overwhelming number of Brits that frequent them
5 minutes walk either side of the marina brings you a far more authentic Spanish feel. Sabanillas is much more spanish though still expensive to eat out. The other side of the marina where the castillo stands is really lovely. V quiet, a tiny little plaza and three or four restaurants.
The best thing of all was our visit to Casares, a beautiful whitewashed town in the hills about 20 mins drive from Duquesa, we also visited Estepona which also has a very picturesque old town.
Duquesa is popular tourist destination and there is nothing wrong with the apartment but if you like the real Spain you wont find it here.

Management Response
22 Jun 2012
Many thanks for your comments, we're glad you enjoyed the apartment and the terrace. Reviews are all about personal opinion, your comments regarding the beach and marina are the first less than totally positive comments we have received from our guests in eight years.

The beach is a grey sand, like the rest of the Spanish coast line for many miles in any direction, its a shame you don't like a grey sand beach.

The marina has over 30 restaurants of differing price and quality, on average they are a little more costly than some of the local spanish ones outside the marina, but not all, most people would expect to pay a premium to eat out in a marina and not feel negative about that.

There are two bars out of the 18 that have karaoke once a week, which isnt to everyones taste, including my own. However there are also quite a few up market very nice and relaxing bars, thus catering for all tastes.

We hope that gives some balance to this review.
