A great surprise on the north coast of New Caledonia. This was definitely the least expensive and the nicest hotel we stayed in during our week long trip. The location was fantastic-close to the dive shop and convenient to the Lindéralique Rocks (we highly recommend renting a kayak to see the rocks up close).

We stayed here for two nights on a road trip to the north of New Caledonia. The room was a pleasant surprise. It had clearly been recently renovated. It was a bit small but modern, clean and comfortable. However I would not stay there again. The food at the restaurant was appalling. Either they need to fix the food or halve the price. It was an extremely mediocre buffet for $AUD50. It was so awful we decided to skip it altogether on our second night and have instant noodles in our room. There are no other restaurants nearby.

The whole place had a 'we don't really care if you have a pleasant stay' feeling. The lights in our room weren't working when we arrived. After 10 minutes of looking around in the increasing dark for a master switch we gave up and walked back to reception where we joined a queue. Finally at the head of the queue, the girl who checked us in looked up, said 'la lumiere' and flicked a switch. Why didn't she just do that when we were checking in and save us a whole lot of hassle.

This was the prettiest location we stayed at, with lovely bungalows with traditional thatched roofs, right on a picturesque beach. The bungalows had been modernised and were spacious and clean. What let the place down terribly was the restaurant. We were staying at a quiet time, and they had obviously economised on the buffet, which was the only option. Other posters mention a good barbecue, and we could see it outside, but it was not offered. The hot selection consisted of four items - an inedible beef casserole, courgettes overcooked down to mush, a gratineed potato dish, where the cream was slightly off fresh, and a mushy mess of yams. The cold selection was mostly packaged cheese and bright pink manufactured meats. All this cost $AUD50 per head. Breakfast was even worse - the same cheese as last night, with the edges of the slices now curled up and the meats looking slimy, tinned fruit in very small amounts, covered in obviously reused cling wrap.
The hotel is not in a town - Hienghene is 10 km away, so you have no choice of places to eat but the hotel. I'd stay there again for the setting, but it's defnitely a BYO food place.

This hotel (formerly a Club Med) is in a great spot with a good beach and pool. The bungalow we had was well-maintained,small but adequate and well equipped. Staff are friendly and helpful but poorly trained. Food is nearly always a buffet and, although the salads and desserts are good, the main course offerings were of poor quality. As there is no alternative place to dine this is a real issue. If the food was better this would be a delightful place to stay.

There are few quality choices when travelling north in New Caledonia. This is a little gem. The renovated bungalows are a delight - modern and clean with a lovely outlook to the ocean. It is possible to have a bungalow with your own small private plunge pool. Wifi is available even in the room. Enjoy the bar and evening entertainment ahead a lovely buffet.

Room Tip: Private plunge pools available in some bungalows
