My family and I stayed here for about a week in May, 2011, after being inspired to visit Guernsey from reading "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society". Being in the tourism business ourselves we were looking for something completely different from the usual hotel experience - something personal, with a family atmosphere that would allow us a greater opportunity to get to know "the real Guernsey". Maison de Bas Villa was everyting we hoped for and more! We felt completely welcomed from the second we pulled up in the driveway, a real part of the family, so much so we were welcomed into the family living room to watch Prince William and Kates wedding with the rest of her family! The atmosphere is simply wonderful with a big garden for the kids to play in, even a trampoline, indoor and outdoor games to play and for the adults, a hot tub. The house itself has plenty of character. The room we stayed in (Herm) was lovely: homely, bright, clean, with lots of clothes space and the bed was extremely comfy! Shelley bakes her own biscuits and cakes everyday that come with the usual tea and coffee making facilities. Maison de Bas villa is superbly situated if you plan to do lots of cycling as we did, less so if you want to spend lots of time on the beach but don't have a car. We loved sharing our breakfast with the other guests, and eating eggs laid by Shelleys own hens. We were a little apprehensive at first at staying in a guest house since we have a three year old daughter (two and a half at the time and going through her terrible two's stage!) but we needn't have given it a second thought, Shelley being very welcoming of children and the place being very child friendly. Above all our daughter absolutely loved it and she is still talking about Shelley and her dogs. Wonderful. We want to go back!
