“Everything we were looking for and more!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 December 2011

My family and I stayed here for about a week in May, 2011, after being inspired to visit Guernsey from reading "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society". Being in the tourism business ourselves we were looking for something completely different from the usual hotel experience - something personal, with a family atmosphere that would allow us a greater opportunity to get to know "the real Guernsey". Maison de Bas Villa was everyting we hoped for and more! We felt completely welcomed from the second we pulled up in the driveway, a real part of the family, so much so we were welcomed into the family living room to watch Prince William and Kates wedding with the rest of her family! The atmosphere is simply wonderful with a big garden for the kids to play in, even a trampoline, indoor and outdoor games to play and for the adults, a hot tub. The house itself has plenty of character. The room we stayed in (Herm) was lovely: homely, bright, clean, with lots of clothes space and the bed was extremely comfy! Shelley bakes her own biscuits and cakes everyday that come with the usual tea and coffee making facilities. Maison de Bas villa is superbly situated if you plan to do lots of cycling as we did, less so if you want to spend lots of time on the beach but don't have a car. We loved sharing our breakfast with the other guests, and eating eggs laid by Shelleys own hens. We were a little apprehensive at first at staying in a guest house since we have a three year old daughter (two and a half at the time and going through her terrible two's stage!) but we needn't have given it a second thought, Shelley being very welcoming of children and the place being very child friendly. Above all our daughter absolutely loved it and she is still talking about Shelley and her dogs. Wonderful. We want to go back!

Stayed for 2 nights in Herm room, which has a double bed.

Good size room, very clean, modern showeroom (no bath tub), good supply of hot water, tea and coffee making facilities, good light coming through the window, but with a blackout curtain if you dont want it, cupboard space for both folded clothes and hanging clothes, very comfortable mattress - duvet - pillows.

Full English Breakfast, home made jams, fruit yogurt, cereal, homemade toast, brewed coffee (in cafetierre), tea, orange or apple juice - all included for the price paid. .I had special dietary requirements which I had mentioned prior to arriving and Shelley offered to provide that as well.

Welcome note from Shelley with information/guidelines on staying at the accommodation, plus notes based on what I told her I was interested in doing. Great advice for which bus to take where and in what order to do the attractions/tours. The B & B is near bus stops so getting around is not a problem.

I thought to myself that Shelley must have sat down and thought "if I were staying here, what would I need in the room?"

If I had to give any feedback, it would be to have a little vanity table in front of the mirror so ladies who need to, can curl or blow dry their hair and be able to see what they are doing.

Strong internet - complimentary.

A different sweet treat to have with your tea in the afternoon.

Overall a great stay and I would return and also recommend it to others......well, that's what I'm doing by writing this review. So book.....it's #1 for a good reason.

We are a French couple and we stayed there for a few days last year. It was very nice, though the weather wasn't, and it is an excellent place to stay. It's a lot warmer than a hotel, Shelley is very nice and as soon as you enter the place, you seem to enter the family and share a piece of their life. The place is typically English (in terms of decoration, I mean) and our stay in Guernsey would have been very different if we'd stayed elsewhere.

Maison De Bas Villa... you'll want to go back - AND WE DO TOO!!! Had a wonderful week in September 2011. This was suppose to be a treat for my up and coming 50th birthday, and it sure was!!!! We were very well looked after from arrival to departure by Shelly, Ann and the team, in a very friendly, relaxed and immaculately clean B&B. These people really care that you have a good time, and will advise if you ask, but without being invasive. We'd never shared a breakfast table with other guests before, but we have to say, it was wonderful to all sit and chat about what we did the day before, and what we planned for the day ahead, it was a real pool of information between everyone. The Jacuzzi was a real treat, along with dogs Bill & Milly, & the cats as borrowed pets for the week! From the homemade cakes, flowers and wine glasses in our room, to wonderful breakfasts, jams, resident hens eggs, every detail made it a very special place to stay! Just one more point to make... the duvet, oh, how wonderful it was, just like sleeping under a giant meringue!!!! Pure luxury!

Room Tip: We stayed in "Guernsey" room, lovely, never heard noise, fine view of front garden. Never...

Shelley and the whole maison staff create a cozy, relaxed environment for a springboard to guernsey sightseeing. Wonderfully, clean cozy rooms with heated towel racks to boot! Breakfast cooked to order with eggs fresh from the hens on the property and home made jams and marmelades is delightful. It's a treat to sit around the table with the other guests as you compare what to see and do that day. Don't miss dinner down the road at Houmet restaurant. Highest praise for the wonderful place.

Room Tip: Only 4 rooms. Each one is different--they are all great.
