We had a White Russian each before our food. They were very good, better than ones we had at a cocktail bar down the road.

My starter was the cured salmon. Very good. Pleasant flavour. My wife had the soup which she also enjoyed.

We both chose the pork cheek for our main course. It was very tender. We also chose side dishes of carrots and jersey royals. They were good too.

Service was friendly and efficient and there is a good ambience in the fairly small space of the ground floor close to the open kitchen.

We had a bottle of Vermentino white wine and a small bottle of sparkling water with the meal. Total cost of £79.50 was good value although the price of drinks is a little higher than average.

Very nice restaurant which we will certainly go to again.

We have visited a number of times before and had really enjoyed every visit and thought 5*.
We visited Sunday, had a roast lunch for 4.
We arrived 1.10pm received the starter 20 mins later then had to ask where the main was about an hour later !
The starter was ok.
On receipt of the main , we requested extra gravy ,as was very light in that department and a very small portion of horseradish sauce.
We started our meal the meat was a little tough, but cooked to order .
The table was that bad we nearly spilt our wine . We spoke to waitress who said a new one was on order ! It was like a meal on a mini roller coaster accentuated by having to cut the meat which was a little tough !
The table wasn’t suitable for service so should have been removed !! Very annoying !
There were only two potatoes, one of the table was nearly finished, so I went to ask where the extra gravy was and asked for more horseradish. Very disappointing it wasn’t important after the wait.
The extra gravy finally came but too late as we were 70% finished .
No one ever asked how is your meal ?
So sad I need to share a bad experience as all our other visits been soo positive before .
Will try once more see if a one off
Happy to chat through with the manager if interested

Came for lunch on Saturday and to review the place for a potential post wedding meal. The food is awesome and the staff were really sweet. It'd been my partner's birthday a couple of days before and we were celebrating with his sister. We didn't mention it but an eagle eyed member of staff saw him opening his presents and surprised him (and us) with a lovely chocolate birthday plate with some sweets. There is no doubt the food is stunning and has made me want to recreate some of the dishes at home. The only negative really was all the staff seemed to be wearing different clothes - not a branded uniform or all black just a mixture of whatever and the manager was in grey trainers and checking her phone while working ... I'm being super picky here but on that basis I wouldn't book for a really special wedding event if staff weren't fully attentive and on a "dress down Saturday" I'd go back for the great food though ...

Ive eaten at the burnt truffle several times and each time it is amazing. The sour dough and truffle butter are out of this work, as too is the Chateaubriand. The service is always relaxed, yet friendly. The menu is rather small, but everything is of the highest quality. The wine was amazing, although at 50 pounds for a bottle of Sancerre a little on the expensive side, but given the quality of both the wine and food, its a price worth paying.

Will definitely go back here. Need to book to be sure of getting in especially on Friday & Saturday. Not a large menu but well designed, something for every taste. Superb food if a bit pricey.
