Stayed in Cheltenham double tree for the the first time in a while and was impressed greatly with the hotel .

The facilities were excellent , the bar area was nice and had a good selection of food to offer for dinner .

I had a great room looking out onto the garden area .

Well worth a stay

Stayed 3 nights. Taxi into Cheltenham costs £8-£10, bus stop near hotel, or a very long walk! The hotel has lovely grounds which you can walk your dog in - dogs are also allowed in the bar area. As the website says, it's a character property with no lift. Room was lovely (435), although we had asked for a ground floor room so that we didn't have to cope with stairs with heavy cases & an elderly dog. On check in we were directed to a corridor to the left of reception and told to take the stairs down to the floor our room was on. We were also told that if we turned left on leaving our room we would come to an unalarmed fire escape door, which we could use to come and go from the hotel & were advised to park our car near to this as it was the best entrance/exit for us to use. Unfortunately the fire escape was another 2 flights of stairs down to ground/car park level! We coped, carrying all bags etc up and down, and even having to carry the dog up and down the 2 flights of stairs. On checkout I mentioned that we had been a bit disappointed, having booked a ground floor room. The lady on duty on reception then told us about another fire exit we could have used, opposite the restaurant, which led from ground level outside to the same level as the floor our room was on & which would have meant no stairs to deal with! If only we had been told on check in! If you have any issues with stairs at all, make sure you make this clear at reception and get them to show you the one and only entrance in the hotel which won't be a problem for you! Staff were all lovely - must be a very good staff training programme at Hilton! Couldn't fault the service. Gym was fine but can get busy as it's open to non-resident health club members. The spa was a little tired - sauna, steam room and spa quite small and in need of a little bit of TLC. The pool is nice, but not a lot of room to sit / lie around reading a book if that's what you're looking for. A water jar and cups were provided, but no bin to put the cups in, and nobody seemed to collect them. When we went in the early evening, the whole area was literally littered with plastic cups, which really didn't look nice. Didn't eat dinner in the restaurant as there were no vegan options on the menu, although maybe they would have come up with something if I had asked, but these days it's nice to be able to just have at least one option on the menu without having to feel like you're making a fuss. We ate in the pub next door one night (where there were 2 vegan mains & 2 vegan desserts :)), which was fine and very reasonable. Had breakfast in the hotel one day - standard buffet fare, all fine (no veggie sausages though), but we weren't offered tea or coffee - eventually managed to catch a waiter's eye long after we had finished eating and asked if we could help ourselves, and was told no, he would bring tea/coffee to us. All in all a nice stay and good to be able to take the dog, and would probably go again if the pool area was improved now that we know about the magic door we could use!

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor garden view room, and ask them to show you the magic door!

Hi Carolyn B
I'm so happy that you and your dog enjoyed your recent stay with us.
Were really proud to be pet friendly and welcome all of our four legged friends with open paws.
I have passed your comments on to my chef about the vegan options and he will be reviewing how our menu is displayed. We will always make any changes possible to suit any diet, and have a selection of different vegan dishes available.
We hope to welcome you back to the hotel again very soon.
Thank you & take care

Stayed here for a business meeting and evening function. Very pleasant hotel with very comfortable rooms - mine was a fair walk from reception but had good views and was spotlessly clean. Staff were great both at reception and during my stay. Food at the evening function was so-so but it was mass catering, although if I'd payed for it personally I wouldn't have been too impressed.

If I remember correctly the last time we stayed at this hotel it was known as the "Cheltenham Spa Hotel". It is now the "Doubletree by Hilton" and has undergone some renovations and upgrades.
Checking in was a breeze and we were treated to a gift bag containing 2 large chocolate chip cookies. Different but greatly appreciated after a long drive. We enjoyed them with a cup of coffee in our room.
The room we had was certainly spacious and had a lovely bathroom large bath with a large powerful shower. We slept really well as the bed was lovely and comfy.
We had breakfast sitting at a window table overlooking the lake. Very enjoyable on a lovely sunny day.
The hotel does not have a lift making some of the rooms inaccessible to anyone with difficulties in climbing stairs.
Unfortunately we were there for 1 night so can not comment on the leisure facilities however it seemed to be busy so that may say something.
Overall it was an enjoyable stay and, as our son lives in the area, we will certainly return for another visit.
