“it is perfect!!”

a beautiful holiday cottage, comfortable and cosy. A perfect Mrs Butterworth, who cares for her guests and takes care if wanted and needed. And a lovely dog watching my husband cooking the meals :-)

We came back again this year as we enjoyed it so much . Few changes , new flat screen TV , log effect gas fire .. Warm welcome from Melanie and as expected cottage was immaculate. Pub opposite does even better food than last time look out for daily specials meal and a drink for £7:50 . The other pub six bells under new ownership beautiful food , great staff. Fantastic chef who spoke to all the customers. . Very friendly village if you like walking lots of walks close by . Melanie and Ian are the perfect hosts along wit Jo who helps run the cottages .
If you want a beautiful place to stay with the perfect host and setting then it's here. Best bit for us is we could let our dog out as the garden is walled .

Just spent a week in this beautiful cottage . Full of character , incredibly restored . What can I say this is the first time we have rented a cottage in this country as we wanted a holiday where we could take our dog. The whole feel of the cottage was of peace and tranquility, as I said incredibly restored the pictures on the web do not do this cottage justice. It was immaculately clean , beautiful toiletries left for us along with bread, milk , juice , jams , butter , eggs and cake all waiting for us . The exposed beams were enchanting as was the decor , just the perfect cottage . Fantastic location , great pubs in village one directly opposite . Melanie the owner made us so welcome and is the perfect host , she met us on our arrival and made sure throughout our stay we had everything we wanted. I can't say enough good things about the cottage and Melanie and her dog Thumper became good friends with our dog Barney. It is so good we are going back as . If like us you like walking there are plenty of walks nearby and the cottage is just the perfect place to come back to.

“Excellent find in great location and very pet friendly”

Booked this for a weeks stay on the edge of the Cotswolds to explore the area with my wife and my two dogs. The property is very secure with walled gardens and a 5 bar gate which is also wired to stop the smaller pets escaping. We had booked the stable which looks great in the photographs and is actually better in the flesh. From our arrival to our leaving we had a great reception from the owner Melanie and her family and pets. The stable is a large property with the sleeping accommodation taking up the whole of the top floor, very rustic but homely and downstairs has a large lounge area with dining table and a small kitchen with all the amenities you could require, the bathroom has a double shower with Elemis products. We were made extremely welcome from our arrival once the shock of seeing the size of the dogs that we'd brought - a great dane and a large lurcher but Melanie wasn't phased at all and the dogs got on great with their own sheepdogs. There was a welcome pack of orange juice, fresh bread, butter, jams, eggs, coffee which are extremely welcome after a long drive. The cottage is an old barn with some of the original feeding troughs and hay racks still in place and lovely touches of the wood flooring, extremely large sofas and TV, Radio, lots and lots of novels and a selection of DVDs. There's a large lawn and another cottage at the top of the property with a full glass front onto the garden which is very attractive. The owners house separates the two rental properties and alongside this is what looks like an old beach changing hut which is also for rental. There was outside tables and chairs and a BBQ for those who're interested. Basically everything you could want for a very comfortable break. There is a pub directly opposite the property which is also dog friendly and serves food and a good selection of drinks, the village itself has all of the usual amenities including a small supermarket and newsagent all within a couple of minutes walk. Bath is only around 8 miles away with the Cotswolds a short drive and lots of other attractions in very close proximity. We would thoroughly recommend this to anyone who wants to take their pets away and don't want the usual downmarket options that are unfortunately sometimes the case. Whether you've pets of not this is a place I would recommend wholeheartedly to anyone wanting a quality break in the area.

“I have never been spoken to in such an abrupt and condescending way”

We really enjoyed our stay in the Stable, it was very comfortable and cosy. However the whole trip was marred by the way in which we were treated by Melanie. After having tried corresponding through email with no success I finally received an answer phone message from her which was both abrupt and frankly rude. We had wanted to enquire about using the Shephards Hut during our stay. We were informed that this was not available. Ok, that's fine but did she need to be so rude about it? I emailed to ask if we could find another solution as we had a couple of friends who we hadn't seen for a while coming over. I didn't hear anything back so I called her. Once again she was on the defensive and treated me with utter disdain, ensuing that I was lying about contacting her by email as she had not received them and her husband was an IT expert therefore I must be wrong. I asked her if she always spoke to her customers like this?! Finally we managed to sort things out and she agreed to our friends staying in the stables with us on the futon bed.

On our arrival we found bread and milk and eggs etc in the fridge and some local mince pies had been left out for us. Lovely. I expected Melanie to come and welcome us but she never did. She had left out bedding and a towel for our friends but there was only one pillow and one towel so I called her to ask for another towel and some extra bedding. Again she was abrupt and made me feel like I was wasting her time.

It was a real shame, what could have been a really good weekend was tainted by the way we were treated. I can only think that we caught Melanie at a bad time, perhaps she was very stressed with Christmas, I don't know.

Management Response
7 Jan 2014
This customer thought the shepherds hut was part of the package and was not happy when I told her it wasn't. She booked the property initially for 2 people (the Stable sleeps very comfortably 3 people). I gave her sheets etc for extra as she said a friend might turn up. As it turned out there were 5 people staying there the double futon which I said fine of course and the sofa too! I also provided extra towels. I was not rude to her. I just made it clear that the shepherds hut was not available as she was determined that it was part of the stable. The shepherds hut if often used in conjunction with the stable but it is made clear that it is under separate negotiation. You can sleep 5 in the cottage at a squeeze but there is usually a small fee. I did not charge her for this.

Obviously not very happy about it but not a lot I could of could have done expecially as it was booked. And, really not sure about what happened on the message front.
