The mill is in a beautiful location and is a place where you can retreat from the world for a week or two. Kingfishers dart and fish jump and you are immersed in nature from the moment you drive through the gates. The owners communicate really well and the property has all you need. Monts is a little sleepy but the mill is well placed for visiting the attractions of the Loire. Do visit the markets at Tours, Loches and Saumur. The fishing here is good - we caught every day. The license is obtained by going to the local florist in Monts not the tabac as mentioned in the visit literature. All in all, a fantastic place to kick back and relax - fantastic!
From the moment we arrived on the sunny terrace basking in sunshine under the soft rose coloured walls of Moulin de Fleriaux we were in love with this beautiful property. Stylishly decorated, well equipped, encompassing the old machinery of the historic water mill, the Moulin made for an idyllic place to relax , enjoy living in the middle of the mill pool: somewhere to read and eat in the sunshine, watch the gliding herons, splash in the water in the supplied canoes and rowboats. A 15 minute walk into local old town Monts and a 30 min walk to neighbouring mill town along the river, the neighbourhood was delightful. Perfectly placed for visiting the chateaux of the region by short car drives, good restaurants and supermarket in nearby Monts, a perfect holiday place in the Loire/Indre valley. thank you so much to the owners for making this beautiful slice of the French countryside accessible to us!
Despite its quirky layout, the Mill is really homely and has been fitted out to a high standard. However, it is the views from the mill that make the place so stunning. We visit France regularly and usually spend several days touring the area, but this place is so gorgeous and peaceful that we could only tear ourselves away for one day.
You can get just about get everything you need from the local Super U, which is only 10 minutes away. You need a permit to fish the river and this is explained in the gites own booklet. It is expensive (32 euro for 7 days) but there are some big fish around, although from my experience they do not like to be caught!
We rarely visit the same place again because there are so many other parts of France we have yet to see, but this place is so relaxing and beautiful we may have to give it another go.
One word of warning - this is an old mill with places where it would be easy to fall to the river below so not the sort of place we would take young children. But for older offspring and adults who just want to chill out it is superb.
