We booked an online deal for a good price, (halb pension inc. breakfast/diner) however looked like the restaurant staff wasn't really aware of special deals & weren't able to answer question, (in English).
Big plus are the saunas! (Swimming pool is rather small but ok).
Website mentioned hotel bar available, which was closed both nights during our stay, which was a pity since no bars in the surroundings.
Location is really green, with nice walking possibilities & great views!

We stayed in the hotel with a special offer, so we couldn't expect an executive suite. But the room on the 4th floor (3 in the elevator) was rather small, caused by the pitched roof. One of us could leave the bed only bended. The bathroom was ok.
The buffets in the restaurant for breakfast and diner were ok. Good variation and quality. The personal in the restaurant was very kindly, especially Lisa and Catherine. The swimmingpool and sauna were very nice. Nice warm water and also an agreable temparature outside the water.
We had the bad luck that there was much heavy traffic on the road nearby, starting at 6. Due to the fact that the main roads of the village were closed for renewal.
Besides two supermarkets the village is totally dead. But in the neighbourhood are nice villages like Quedlinburg, Wernigerode with the Aviation Museum and the glassfactory Harzkristall nearby. And Leipzig is worth a visit, althoug 120 km away.

Room Tip: The rooms on the fourth floor are rather small.

Stayed here with my GF. the hotel is placed nice and quite, with a perfect view to the city. The style fits the castle theme. Staff is friendly and the rooms are big and clean. Reception area is, unfortunately, the most stylish area in the hotel. Rooms could be a bit more like it.

We really liked this hotel. It looks good inside out, and the rooms were good size and clean. Ampel parking space around the venue. The bathroom was very spacious and up to modern standards. Staff was really friendly. Dinner however was very disappointing. Breakfast was good with lots of choices. Next to the hotel is a huge park with lots of walking possibilities. The small town of Ballenstedt (former East Germany) is, except for the nicely renovated main roads, not very attractive. The Harz region is very nice, but there still are lots of ghost-like and abandoned industrial buildings left over from the days of occupation.

This hotel is part of the Dutch "Van der Valk" chain which is known to offer basic quality for reasonable prices.

Room Tip: Best (real cheap) deals are made through last-minute internet sites, which is exactly what we did.

We were very impressed by the outside appearance of the hotel which was exactly as advertised unlike other hotels. The reception is located in a very impressive marbled tiled foyer with sweeping staircase and echoes of grander days. The bedroom was huge and stylishly furnished in antique style with a very large bed, comfortable two seater settee. round coffee table and wing chair and two desks - so plenty room. The bathroom was large and gleaming white - spotlessly clean. The breakfast was excellent with a good selection of cold and hot dishes which included bacon. boiled and scrambled eggs. sausages, various cereals, yoghurts, fresh fruit salad. melon and dried fruit. There was also a variety of cheeses , cold meats, tomatoes, cucumber and smoked salmon. There was also small croissants which were delicious. Staff were very attentive and were constantly restocking the buffet.
Dinner in the evening was excellent with a choice of two restaurants but the menu is not vast.
Although we did not use the facilities the hotel has a nice swimming pool and spa which appeared to be very popular.
Without exception all the staff we encountered were extremely helpful and could not be faulted. If I had one complaint it would be that disabled parking is not available outside the hotel but outside the boundary wall. The entrance is cobbled and if you have difficulty walking this makes the walk unnecessarily difficult. It was especially annoying as the spaces in front of the hotel appear to be used by staff from the hotel spa who were perfectly capable of walking from the parking on the boundary wall. Apart from this I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to stay again.
