stayed in early june, accommodation was a good standard, swimming pool was excellent, good tennis courts and friendly staff - downsides were music was extremely loud some nights and went on way too late in particular for homes near the stage, internet is a rip off at €7 for one hour and its slow at that and finally no swing for toddlers. As for Vias Plage itself its an ugly little resort and hasnt much going for it except a nice boulangerie, Vias town is very quiet also. Having said that there are some nice towns within short driving distance such as Pezenas, Agde and Valras and the Canal Du Midi is on your doorstep. Thought the restauarants in the area were so so but defenitely recommend trying the local wines which were great. Overall would definately recommend the campsite however perhaps not the location.

We stayed here for a week in June and had a great time. The reception staff were friendly and efficient and spoke English. Our chalet was on a good quiet pitch (pitch number VB31) and was immaculately clean and well equipped . We pre booked a high chair, travel cot and pushchair as extras (they looked brand new, but the season has just started) but you can actually buy the same stroller at the excellent Hyper U supermarket for only 16 euros.

The swimming pool and site as a whole were very well kept and in good order.

There is a restaurant on site which served good food but was a bit pricey. The on-site shop was a total rip-off with the exception of the lovely fresh bread. Dont buy any groceries at the local shop down the street as it's a rip-off too. Go to the Hyper U supermarket on the road to Cap de'Agde which is a 5-10 minute car journey from the site.

We flew to Montpellier and hired a car. Vias Plage was easy to find and was only 40 minutes from Montpellier airport.

The local beach was quite nice and wasn't busy. Places to visit - Montpellier, Cap de'Agde and Dinoland for young kids!

Because we stayed in June, it was very good value for a three bed excellence with air con and veranda but during peak time in August, the price goes up massively and I dont think it's worth £1400 plus extras for a one week stay. The towel and linen packs, although clean, were a bit old and shabby and definitely not worth paying for. Bring your own if you can!

We have just returned from a one week holiday at La Carabasse. Our first impressions on arrival were very favourable. Everything looked clean and well maintained, and the lady in the reception was expecting us and had everything ready for our arrival. We found our mobile after an unplanned tour of the site - the layout is slightly confusing, and I must admit to being a little disappointed that once found, our plot was very much in the shade. However, on opening the door, I could not have been more delighted and very pleasantly surprised. The mobile home we had been allocated appeared to be brand new. It had three bedrooms (the usual shoebox type you find in mobile homes), but what I didn't expect were two shower rooms and toilets, a washing machine and a dish washer. I can only assume we were in a private mobile home that the owner had chosen to rent out, but as I didn't query this I can't be sure. There was a large decking area, and as the week progressed and the heat intensified the shade was very welcome. The pool was fabulous, but as we had been told it was heated I was disappointed to find that it was freezing and even my young son wouldn't go in. As the week progressed however, it warmed up slightly. As it was so early in the season not everything on site was open, and it was disappointing that maintenance was ongoing. Around the area where the table tennis tables were was full of broken glass. Not good when young kids are running about, sometimes without shoes. We visited the Yelloh site just up the road, and things there seemed to be in full swing, with their maintenance presumbly carried out in the off-season as it should have been. There was nightly entertainment and we did spend three of our nights there as our son made some friends.
La Carabasse is definitely not on the beach - I do feel the website description of the site is slightly misleading in this. We made the trek, and I do mean trek, out to the beach on our first evening only to be bitten to death by mosquitos on the walk back. The Yelloh camp however, is right on the beach.
If it is the beach you want then it is much easier to take the car, or relatively short walk, to the beach at the top of the 'strip' in Vias Plage - plenty of free parking and a beautiful beach - wide, fine sand and very shallow for quite a way out.
Vias Plage - I hated it. Again, not fully open. The bars and restaurants do seem to have tried to up their game but the area is in serious need of some investment by the local council to upgrade the pavements and general surroundings. It would be much better if they could find some way to pedestrianise the strip, if only in the evenings. The road is quite busy - even in May - and to be honest, I don't want to eat my meal just a couple of steps away from traffic and fumes. Neither did we find the surrounding area anything to go mad over. We are used to the Cote D'Azur and there are far, far more interesting and picturesque hill villages etc in that area. We loved the accommodation, the site was very good apart from the not-beachside location, the beaches were fab, but the area didn't hit the spot for us. We visited Beziers, Sete, Marseillan, Agde, Cap D'Agde and Pezenas and weren't bowled over by any of them. So, it will be the Cote D'Azur for us in future. Siblu - why don't you have more sites over in that region?

Our third year here so it must be OK!

Firstly the entertainment staff are great - our 5 & 8 year old both adore kids club (2 x 2 hours per day, unaccompanied for kids over 5.)

Secondly, the lifeguards take their job really seriously. This is a good thing! (But yes, they could open the slides more regularly.)

On the downside:

- EUR 4.50 a pint for Stella and Happy Hour is too early (it changed last year.)

- The shop is a blatant rip off. Sorry but there's no way around it. Buying anything more than bread there is truly painful.

Wifi works out about a fiver a day. Not the end of the world and quicker than dialup, though not UK broadband speed.

We've both driven and flown. Flying is a lot less hassle and almost certainly cheaper, with Ryanair flying direct to Beziers (a EUR 20 taxi ride from the site.) The nearest Intermarche (Vias town, not Plage) is 30 mins walk there and EUR 10 back in a taxi.

If you do drive, the Formule 1 at Orleans is cheap and cheerful.

We always come in May / early June around half term. The place is half full so no worries about sun beds etc etc. Fun fair still closed = peaceful evenings. Our caravan has always been great and again I'd say the staff are without exception friendly and professional (a few badly-attempted words of French does, as always in France, help to ingratiate, though all the staff who need to speak English do so well enough.)

Siblu need to wise up though. The recession is hitting them hard. This place is significantly less full than the same time last year. Tesco have cut the value of their clubcard points and LEAs have apparently started fining people for taking their kids out of school early. But still seemingly small issues like bar and shop prices (which add up!) leave a nasty taste on an otherwise excellent holiday.

Vias Plage is a typical tourist armpit, but the town proper is lovely, if tiny, and Beziers and Agde are both gorgeous.

We stayed at La Carabasse 14 - 29 May 2011, so right at the beginning of the season. During our stay we had wonderful weather with temperatures in the high 20s/low 30s every day.

We drove from Calais, stopping overnight in a Formula One hotel near Nemours. Petrol costs for the return trip were in the region of £210 and we used the main roads rather than motorways to avoid the tolls - the only toll we paid was €6.40 for the Millau bridge. The total driving time from Calais is 12 hours plus stops. We would look at flying next time as petrol is now so expensive (€1.50+ a litre)

The site is very well kept and all staff are friendly and helpful. Our mobile was very clean and well equipped - we had a couple of maintenance issues we reported to reception and they arranged an appt time rather than us having to wait around for someone to come. Unfortunately, the issues weren't resolved but at least they tried.

The pool complex is lovely - the 3 lifeguards patrol it very well and consistently. No ball games are allowed in the large pool so adults and swimmers can use it without having to dodge around and there are signs everywhere to say no diving - this pool no deeper than 140cm at any point. The middle pool is for games and aquagym and there is a smaller pool for toddlers, as well as a slide area. All pools are heated and there were plenty of sunbeds for everyone at any time of the day - not sure what this would be like in peak season !! The sunbeds aren't very comfortable - wish we'd taken padded towels. There are superior sunbeds but these are chargeable at €2 per day, which we weren't prepared to pay.

As other reviewers have said, we felt the cost of wifi to be very high. Also we found the bar prices quite high although they are consistent with the area.

The little village of Vias Plage is a short walk away where there is a lovely boulangerie open from 7am every morning - perfect for breakfast and watching the world go by. There are also a number of restaurants offering 3 course menus from around €11. The site has a restaurant on site with similar prices.

There is a Hyper U supermarket in Agde which is open 08.00 - 20.30 Monday to Saturday, also a shop on site and two small supermarket within walking distance in Vias Plage (8 - 8 and Spar)

You can walk to the clean, sandy beach from the site but it's a good 15 minutes either through the village or on paths through open land from the site, and if you're taking all the usual paraphernalia, it can be quite a hike. We took the car which meant we could go a bit further afield - we found lovely beaches within a few miles which were almost deserted.

Not sure what this site would be like in July and August, but we'll certainly look to return next May.
