We are so lucky to live just around the corner, literally 2 minute walk, so Itchi Ni Nana has become an almost weekly dinner tenure for us. On this occasion we took some good friends from Denmark along with us. We tried a wide variety from the menu with them and they loved everything we shared. the layout and decor is so cool here, the renovation of the Old Colonial Hotel is brilliant with lots of natural wood and nooks and crannies for private dining and booths for groups and different levels with tables. The Sushi and Sashimi is so fresh and delicious and we love watching the chefs prepare the plates with so much attention to detail and presentation. Some of our favourite dishes include the Agadashi Tofu, Eggplant in sweet and sticky sauce, the Pork Belly, the Prawn Tempura and the great deserts including the Rosewater Ice-cream which is a Must and the Banoffee which is a delicious indulgence enough for 2 people to share. It's certainly not the old style stuffy and super expensive Japanese restaurant that leaves you still hungry and your wallet empty. This is cool modern Japanese in a really modern setting with prices that are quite reasonable such as the Agadashi Tofu at just $12. Lots of Tapas and smaller dishes to order allowing you to enjoy a real mixture of food on offer in one visit. Plus absolutely wonderful friendly service!

We started with pre- dinner drinks on the rooftop bar with a beautiful late afternoon sun and disco revival tunes in the air. The bar man was very knowledgeable of his stock and I chose a light creamy Japanese whiskey to sip. The atmosphere on the rooftop was just lovely - well separated tables, candles, heating and a scattering of potted succulents set in dark wood, aged timber and deep red tones.
Downstairs to the dining hall and we were ushered into our own booth. The decor was an extension of the rooftop bar with subtle lighting from the hanging shades. The extensive drinks menu included wine beer cocktails hot and cold beverages. Selecting a cocktail was a bit of a challenge as I had no idea what many of the Japanese elements were bit ended up with a light lemony, fluffy cocktail which was a perfect foil for the meal ahead. We chose tapas: seared tuna, octopus, soft shell crab, prawn gyoza, scallops and carpaccio beef. All arrived promptly and the soft shell crab was a standout.
The service was attentive and helpful with selections and dietary requirements.
Not a cheap night out for 2 at $190 but beautiful, simple, clean food prepared artfully and tasted delicious.

Celebrating my daughters 23rd birthday, who had been here before and convinced us to attend. We were not disappointed. The food is a combination of inventive fusion Japanese with all the traditional dishes. Lamb chops and soft shell crab are a standout, and the combination sushi/sashimi plater was excellent, and at $75 was plenty for the 5 of us combined with other dishes.
While not extensive the wine list was ample with good choices at all levels. However if you are into Saki, the selection was more extensive and worth giving it a try. The cocktails are excellent and most with a Japanese influence.

It is in a very 'trendy" building and it was a bit loud at times and a bit hard to hear conversation.

Food is served generally at once and quick so if you want to pace yourself only order a few dishes and when you are ready order more as they come pretty quickly.
