This restaurant was a great find! My wife and I spent a week in Melbourne, and this was one of our very favourite eateries.
Earlier in 2017 I spent two weeks in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and ate a lot of Ethiopian cuisine. The food at Saba was the real deal, and even better than what I ate in Ethiopia!
We had the three-meat and three-veg (chef's choice) dishes to share. It came served on a large piece of injera bread, with extra rolls on the side to mop up the food. For those who don't know, injera is a traditional sourdough Ethiopian flatbread that is used to eat curry-style dishes by hand. Ethiopian dishes are very distinctive as it is the only African country never to be colonised, and so it has a very well preserved identity and culture.
For the meat and veg dishes, extra injera bread, Ethiopian ginger tea and then honey wines for afters, we paid 66 Australian dollars. Worth every penny!
