Just returned from a stay at the Hotel Adriatic on Hvar, which was less than memorable. Though the hotel has a picture-perfect location on the historic harbor, the lack of comfort and amenities was extremely disappointing. Though the hotel was clean and the staff friendly and helpful, the beds were the worst I have ever slept on - lumpy and uncomfortable twin beds pushed together (there are no real double beds - a disappointment for those seeking a romantic getaway.) I did not get a good night's sleep the entire time we were there, tossing and turning in the hope of finding a spot where a bedspring would not be poking me.

The decor was dull and a bit depressing, the roof above the top-floor pool leaky, and the food at the breakfast buffet atrocious. The off-season clientele seemed to consist entirely of retired European couples looking for a bargain getaway, not exactly the swanky scene that has been hyped in numerous recent media stories.

Sadly, this seemed to be the case with most of the hotels on the island - virtually all of them seemed to be dreary and unluxurious, and even the gorgeous-looking Palace Hotel has a lobby that looks like a nursing home waiting room behind the glorious facade. The situation was not improved by the torrential rains we experienced for the entire time we were there during the first week of October, so I would strongly suggest going in the summer, or September at the latest.

On the plus side, there were rumors the Adriatic (and some of the other hotels on Hvar) will undergo some kind of renovations this winter, so perhaps next summer there will be more options for comfort-conscious travelers. However, discriminating travelers may want to arrive on their own yacht until further notice.

Stayed 2 nights @ hotel Adriatic, the rooms would need an update but they are spacey and clean with AC. Bathroom was big as well with a bath tub !
Price in September for double room B&B about 70 euros.
Don't expect luxury, but I would advice to stay in that hotel for 2 reasons: the fantastic view you get of Hvar from the rooftop terrace, we have great memories of sitting there at night with a glass of wine overlooking the harbour (shame the bartender was not that friendly..) and taking our breakfast also outside but on the downstair terrace by the harbour.
It's centrally located and if you come by car you can park your car for free at the top of the hill behind the hotel, just a few stairs down. just ask the receptionist for explanations on how to get there.

The location of this hotel is great - it is right on the harbour so if you get a room with a view it is great. The rooms are okay size, but have air conditioning so that is good. Only downside is that you are quite close to the Castle club so can be noisy. There is a HUGE swimming pool (indoor) on the roof of the hotel with an area to sit outside as well. I thought the breakfast was good despite the other reviews - although the tea/coffee and juice was horrible, the choice of food was good. I don't think you'd want to get stuck on an all inclusive deal with this hotel though (which is what they try and offer) - just make sure you get breakfast with your room and that is fine. (we cheekily took a bag down to breakfast and filled it with ham & cheese & bread & boiled eggs & cake from the breakfast selection ... which was our lunch!!!!)

We stayed at Hotel Adriatic for 3 nights and had a room with a nice view of the harbour. The room was spacious and had air conditioning. It was only a couple of minutes walk to the centre of town. They have an indoor swimming on the top floor and a nice terrace overlooking the harbour. Breakfast was ABSOLUTELY terrrible! You have to pay for orange juice and the food was not fresh and lack of varieties. For the price that we paid - €150/night, we expected much more.

The hotel is nothing special, but it is clean and the rooms are ok! Breakfast is poor but location and views are fantastic.
