We visited the spa at Dalhousie Castle as part of a Groupon Deal. It was a 2hour pass and we booked it for 6pm, great facilities and not too busy when we went. Hydropool was great after camping for 2 nights and the sauna was really relaxing. Unfortunately there were a few men who thought it was OK to just wear boxer shorts in the spa as opposed to proper swim wear, and 2 of these were wearing white pants! What possessed them i'll never know, but out of the control of the spa I'd imagine.

My partner and I called in to view this hotel on the way to the ferry, and were so impressed with the castle and surroundings that we ended up staying the night. The staff are lovely especially Peter who we met on entering the castle that morning. He showed us around the various rooms, and the area around the castle. We were really impressed. We really enjoyed the falconery it was wonderful to see the owls and birds of prey. We stayed in the cockpen room it was wonderful, a large four poster bed, a wonderful terrace that we sat on overlooking the grounds, it was breathtaking. It had a large bathroom and a wonderful shower. We did visit the spa, it was lovely but on the small side, Its ok for the space they have had to work with. We had breakfast in the orangery which was first class, it was a beautiful day and the sun was shining in the large conversatory. (excellent scrambled egg and salmon) We did not have time to try the restaurant but hopefully we will get to return soon. Michael the duty manager was very kind, and when we were leaving he showed us the other rooms available in the castle. All the rooms are fabulous. I believe the castle has been bought over recently and I would love to see what the new owners do to make it even better. I would recommend this castle we loved it. We had fantastic weather and the walks around the grounds are lovely. Keep up the good work. Hope to see you again soon.

Having read some of the earlier reviews, we were not sure what to expect. Arriving late in the evening, the castle looked stunning all lit up in the distance - would we be disappointed once we were inside? Far from it, the place is absolutely fantastic. We were shown to our room (named after Walter Scott) which had a huge four-poster bed, a wonderful sash window with great views and a huge bathroom with a bath and an excellent shower. The maintenance cost of this place must be huge, and yes, they may have not used some of the finest furnishings and materials during the coversion process, but given the reasonable prices, and the close proximity to Edinburgh, why would anyone want to stay in a faceless chain hotel when this kind of place exists? Breakfast in the orangery was first class (excellent porridge and kippers) and service was cheerful and polite. Unforunately we were on business and had no time to try out the spa or the restaurant. However, we will definitely return given the chance and would heartily recommend the experience.

We visited for a romantic dinner and booked a themed room as I had read they were of a better standard ....... wouldnt like to see the basic room then
4 Poster bed was great but the standard of the other furnishings was very very poor ..... faded fabrics on chairs worn through fabric on chair ...torn ,worn leather top on desk and wooden furniture scratched and worn through .......... not quite to expect for what they charge !
The shower curtain smelled damp but the room was fairly clean
Dinner was however quite delicious, food and service of a high standard ......... but I would drive home next time (if there ever is a next time )

Room tip: not sure there is one .... we stayed in Walter Scott .... to be avoided
