The property is situated in the small hamlet of Dockray. The only facility in the locality is the local pub which has a nice garden, there is no shop. It is easy to drive to Patterdale and Glenridding for access to the high fells. Main shopping towns are Keswick and Penrith about a 15 minute drive away. Dockray is very quite and you wake up to the birds singing, no mobile signal and patchy internet add to the peacefulness. The property is well appointed, with good sized bedrooms and upstairs a large kitchen diner lounge with French doors looking out to the hillside. Lovely peaceful holiday.
Mary Meadows is perfect, our stay was everything we wished for and more, nothing was too much for Joanne and Paul. We were there for a week and had never been to the Lakes before. The house is well equipped as we cooked all our meals and it is the perfect place to walk from. Easy to find and gorgeous views. Quiet and secluded even though there are a couple of houses around. Thank You so much for having us we will definately be back!
Located in Dockray which turned out to be ideal for visiting lots of different areas of The Lakes. Although nice and rural its only 10 or so miles to Penrith for everything you need. The pub is close and although very quiet when we went in February i'm sure its full of life in in the spring and summer months.
Mary Meadows has been beautifully converted without compromise which makes for the perfect stay. The wifi is patchy but I guess thats due to the location. All in all I wouldn't hesitate to re-book.
We stayed at Mary Meadows for a week beginning 26 August 2017. The cottage was in a beautiful position overlooking hills and farmland and had everything you could wish for. The bedrooms were very spacious and well appointed with comfortable beds and spotless bedding, towels being an unexpected extra. The bathroom, also on the lower floor, was also spacious with good quality fittings. The upper floor was enormous, with a large well fitted kitchen, including washing machine, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, and the lounge and dining areas were very comfortable, with views through the French doors to the outside seating area and fields and hills beyond. We had a lovely holiday, the weather was kind to us and coming back to the cottage each evening was like coming home.
web site photographs of properties can sometimes be misleading. This is certainly not the situation for Mary Meadows. The external appearance gives little indication as to what to expect when entering the cottage. The interior has been expertly designed and furnished and was , surprisingly warm in March with the thermostat relatively low. Being situated in the small hamlet of Docking, there is very little passing traffic which leads to a very relaxing and peaceful location.
