We purchased out trip from Costco Travel and that portion was fantastic. We arrived late in the evening on a flight that landed at 9:30 pm. The travel package included transportation from the airport to the hotel and Destination Tours was right there on time. Great company. We arrived at around 11:00 pm and had a hard time finding the check in area only due to the lay out of the hotel being a bit confusing. We got our keys and were able to get into our room. It was a beautiful room and everything was as described from Costco Travel. Great ocean and pool view. The package included free breakfast in the morning and a $25 credit per day for meals. The only problem with this is that if you have a tour to go on they pick you up at 6:45 am and the restaurant doesn't open until 6:30 am (the Mansanita Rest). The hostesses at the front that are to seat you and check you in are incredibly slow and have no sense of urgency whatsoever. On the plus side the wait staff is simply fantastic. They go above and beyond to accommodate you. We were given to go containers and they were just wonderful people. The pool area is beautiful but the prices of soda are crazy. $5 for a can of soda. Also there is a private beach club called Hacienda Panilla just down the beach that has an agreement with the JW Marriott to allow their guests to use their restaurant and pool but the JW Marriott does not let you know this. I believe it's because the Hacienda Panilla has much cheaper prices. We ate there our last day there and the food was fantastic. One problem about the area where the hotel is located is that it is 90 minutes from the city of Liberia which is where the airport is and where all tours start from. This adds 90 minutes to any tour you want to go on. Makes for a very long day. I suggest bringing extra snacks so that the one meal the tours provide isn't making you starve. Another big problem we had with this hotel was the checkout process. We were concerned that the staff would mess up our promised credits provided by Costco Travel. They always seemed so confused when we would ask about our credits. We had to leave the hotel at 2 am on our check out day to catch our flight in Liberia so we had asked for a bill showing what we owed up to that point and they said the Costco credit person wasn't working so they'd email us our bill which was a little unnerving considering how confused they got whenever we brought up Costco credits. Sure enough when we did get our final bill 5 days late and only because I called the corporate customer service toll free line was I able to get our bill which didn't show any credits and also showed they had billed us for all of our nights even though we had prepaid Costco Travel for this. Only after I ended up having to call long distance and paying a hefty international calling fee was I able to get someone online (albeit after a ton of hold time) and after she was arguing with me about how the Marriott does not honor credits and that I would have to take that up with the Marriott (um that's who I thought I was talking to) was I able to have a different bill that was detailed sent out to me. This time the room wasn't showing another fee and only our bill charges showed up with our Costco credits. I'm checking with our credit card company to make sure that first bill didn't get charged to us. Very rude front desk person as well. I didn't catch her name which is a pity. Overall I didn't think it was fair to drop my rating another star due to this since otherwise it was great. This was really a nice vacation and the few issues we had wasn't enough to ruin our trip. I do believe the check in and check out process needs to be corrected regarding billing.More
