Researching resorts in Saint Martin we were smitten with Esmeralda Resort and it lived up to our expectations. We stayed March 2-9. The sprawling villa style resort is elegant but laid back and casual. Staff are responsive but not obtrusive.

The semi private pool was welcomed when the beautiful beach was too windy. We had deluxe rooms which were very spacious and comfy with a large patio. It was nice to nice to sleep at night without AC with the peaked roof, ceiling fan and screened windows you could leave open to hear the ocean, breeze in the palm trees and crickets.

Astrolabe, the on-site restaurant, serves up fine cuisine and other good restaurants are a 5-6 minute walk to the Orient Bay village which can also be accessed from the beach. For early risers, warm fresh baked croissants are served up at an excellent patissere. There is also a good grocery store, a few casual cafes, pizza parlor, salon and beach shop with swimsuits, coverups and beach toys.

We went on a day trip to Anguilla which included a stop at Prickly Pear Cay and snorkelling - we saw lots of colourful fish Anguilla is beautiful with calm beaches.

We loved our trip to Saint Martin and our stay at Esmeralda and hope to return again soon.

My wife and I just returned from a week in St Martin. We stayed at the Esmelda and it more than met our expectations. The property was well maintained, the rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable. The private pools were a bonus I never even considered when selecting a place to stay. Many afternoons, we found ourselves cooling off in the pool chatting with other guests from out four unit villa. The staff is very eager to please you and assist you with your every need. The restaurant on site, the Astrolab, was excellent but be sure to check out other restaurants in Orient Bay and Grand Case as well. After all, St Martin is the culinary center of the Caribbean. While it is true that Hurricane Irma gave the island a pounding and there is still much work to be done to bring it back to its former splendor, this is a great time to visit St Martin. The beaches are not as crowded and the people of the island are so appreciative of the tourist. I highly recommend the Esmerelda if you choose to visit this wonderful little island.

Close to the beach, semi-private pools, topnotch French restaurant and a professional staff make this Orient Beach hotel an excellent choice. Very laid-back and not super-lux except for the space, quiet and delicious food. Walk to beach restaurants or a small shopping area or a nude beach. Activities can be booked through the concierge if you're so inclined. The island is still recovering but we booked a taxi to give us a tour of the main sights. Be sure to have the local food in Grand Case. We highly recommend Cynthia's.

Room tip: For couples, the best room faces the ocean with a large pool and grand space inside.

built in villas of 4 apartments with a pool, looks like a small cul de sac of homes, separate 'villa' which is the reception and another separate 'villa which is the brilliant restaurant where breakfast is served each morning between 730-1030.
The food is fresh and always served with a smile and welcome in french and english.
We only ate one evening meal there and it was fantastic, seared red fin tuna, presented beautifully.
Reception, ground and cleaning staff all were friendly cheerful and helpful at all times.

I stayed there for a weekend. Impressive return after the devastating Irma in 2017. Resort and gardens are beautiful, staff is very welcoming. The rooms feel completely new and renovated. High ceiling, comfortable bed, beautiful bathroom and the best part is a large balcony with view on the pool.

Only improvement needed would be for breakfast. For such hotel standing I would expect real fruit juice and fresh croissant instead of industrial products.
