“Went for a walk here”

Sieradowicki Landscape Park
Reviewed 22 October 2017

This was a great place for a walk beside the reservoir within easy reach of Starachowice, but there's lots of litter so there are better places, I'm sure!

Sieradowicki Landscape Park (equvalent of Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in England) has been established in 1988 as part of "Large-area nature conservation system". They created 4 such large parks, in addition to 3 established in south of the county a year earlier, another one has been added in 1996. Sieradowicki LP covers the area of nearly 12500 ha, spread between the towns of Starachowice, Suchedniów and Bodzentyn. Mentioned towns are best places to start your day out, visiting the Park, as they got all sorts of links with it, from walking trails to bicycle paths and to bridleways. The centre of the Park, called Wykus, was used during WWII as a partisan squads concentration point before organised attacks on Nazi troops. Now this place is central point for many patriotic events, it's also surrounded by nature reserve. Most trails are going across Sieradowicki LP would eventually end up here, in place called Wykus. There's another two nature reservs in Sieradowicki LP: Góra Sieradowska and Kamień Michniowski. Both worth a visit. The Park is largely inaccesible for motorists; there are some dirt tracks open for public, but I wouldn't use them, unless I had to. The route from Wąchock to Bodzentyn, marked on many maps as a normal route, has been built in seventies of 20th century, and never underwent refurbishement, so even if sometimes cars and coaches do go that way to Wykus, that route is only for the bravest of motorists...
