Staying here had a lot of good qualities and a few just OK. On the average side, the suite that we stayed in needed attention, from clogged drains, dripping faucets, broken towel hooks and soap thinner than a wafer.

On the positive side, the staff (of one) was very friendly, professional and helpful, plus the views from the room were spectacular.

This isn't a very positive review which is strange since Lagurardia is definitely the town to stay in within the Rioja district and we had a great time. I would revisit this town anytime, but would stay someplace else if for nothing else, to see if this experience was typical.

A great location with views of Rioja to die for from the castle tower. The rooms are roomy and the decor will excite your eyes. You need to be fit to drop off your luggage as access is not close from the street below, but the staff are really helpful in making this easier for you. We had breakfast included, but compared to other offerings from similar residences this did not live up to expectations, don’t bother. Access to the old town is great And worth a visit. The staff are friendly and offered good advice to travel to Ezcaray to view the alps.

This hotel has the perfect location in Rioja for wine and sightseeing travel. The rooms are as beautiful as advertised, the staff is 6 star perfect, the breakfast is varied and served to your table as you arrive. The restaurant and tapas bar at the base of the castle offer good choices for sit-down or tapas to satisfy every need. We arrived in the afternoon of a busy Easter week in the town. Parking (100 steps below the castle) was hard to find. I can imagine it would be even harder in the summer. Evening or mornings are best time to find a spot in the small municipal parking lot.
The room was beautiful, but the shower was tiny. They put a fancy fiberglass multi-function shower box in a larger tiled space that would have been adequate. It was impossible to turn around in the box.

Room Tip: Research the web site to find the rooms with a view or balcony: Amor or La Fabula.

loved our stay here and since it was early Feb and snowing outside we pretty much had the place to ourselves. 10 very cozy rooms, each with a story of its own. ours with #6, large bedroom and bath and plenty of heat and hot water. beautiful view and great location in La Guardia which is a really sweet small town and an easy drive to local wineries. free parking right across the street. lots of stairs so beware. woudln't hesitate to go again. make sure you go to lunch at Amelibia down the street. so good!

The building really is a small old castle built into the town walls. It is perfectly located on the edge of the village, five minutes walk from the town centre.

The room was large and the heating was on full blast, so we weren't cold despite the weather outside. The bed was huge and comfortable, and everything was clean and well presented. The furniture was older style to blend in withthe castle, and the windows were mullion-style with wooden shutters instead of curtains. We were given a complementary bottle of wine in the room, along with a small bottle of water.

Our room even had a wooden Sauna in it. Although it sounds a good idea, it wasn't very practical and is more of a gimic than something useful.

Breakfast was varied and plentiful, served up in a small room in the main hotel. We did try the ajoining restaurant for the evening meal, but found it expensive and not particularly inspiring (there are better options in the village).

One other little bonus - we loved going up to the turret at the top of the castle to get views across the Rioja vineyards.

Overall, not a cheap hotel and missing some mod-cons, but a great experience and well worth an overnight stay.
