“Quiet, nice and comfortable”
Reviewed 3 August 2011

My husband and I stayed at Abbeyville for two nights. The room was small but clean and comfortable. Bernadette was friendly and breakfast was delicious and varied (in particular, we appreciated the homemade's scones). Good location for a marvellous tour of Connemara and Cliffs of Moher. It was near the city of Galway, very nice but very crowded because of the horse racing held there. It was also near also a touristic beach full of restaurants.

There was absolutely nothing specifically wrong with this clean, friendly B&B. We cannot fault the accommodation nor the breakfast or hospitality. It is in a great location to access the Connemare and Galway etc. The only problem was our high expectations were dashed - it was advertised in the Irish Tourism accommodation guide as a 'country house' - but this was basically a modern home in a small town, no countryside in view. Compared to all other 'country hoses' we stayed in on our trip - this one certainly could not compare to the others and, unfortunately was more expensive than all the others - and the room was small. We paid Euro 70 for the night (double room), compared to 60 at other 5 star B&B establishments (5 star by comparison that is). Don't get us wrong - this is not a dive nor to-be-avoided-at-all-costs - we simply felt misled by the advertising in the Tourism guide. It should have been listed as a 'town house' in our view. Oh yes - and the pubs/restaurants within walking distance were also expensive in our experience. Do not stay in Barna if you're looking for good value.

I was a guest in Abbeyville Bed and Breakfast . I came for a weekend and stayed for 11months .I had a very nice time there and went home with wounderful memories of my tiime in Galway and my stay in Abbeyville . Bernadette,Tony and their family were friendly and cheerful. Their rooms were clean and comfortable. The Breakfast choice was varied and well prepar and fresh fruit always available. Bernadette made her own brown bread and scones which I enjoyed very much.

We stayed at Abbeyville 3 nights in December while in Ireland celebrating our 40th anniversary. There was snow, ice and frost, but that did not stop us from having a wonderful time. There are numerous places to eat within walking distance: O'Gradys on the Pier, The Pins at the Twelve and another pub (can't remember the name) across the street and about half a block down from Abbeyville where you can get a wonderful Monkfish and homemade ice cream.

Abbeyville was clean, the food wonderful, the bed more than comfortable. Tony spent some time with us, entertaining us with life around the area. (His wife was away on holiday, and came our last night). We had arrived with the thought of staying one night, and ended up staying 3 and would have stayed longer if we did not have to start back toward Dublin and the airport. There is so much to do around Galway and Barna that you could stay in that area for months. And if you choose to do that, I would highly recommend Abbeyville B & B.

We had a great time while staying at Abbeyville B&B. It was perfect for what we needed because we were going to the Aran Islands the next day so it was only a 30min drive to the port. We had to do laundry at this point in our trip, so we dropped it off and Bernadette went as far as to pick it up for us which was amazing of her and extremely helpful. I wished we could have stayed there longer. The food and service was excellent! Thank you!!!
